I have an Onkyo HT-RC230 receiver. Comcast recommends 30135 or 30842 for programming the universal remote (XFINITY DVR 3-Device remote; silver with red OK button). Unfortunately, the first code only turns on the receiver and the second only turns off the receiver.

The Comcast remote requires a FIVE digit code: it will not accept a four digit code.

  • Anonymous Jul 31, 2011

The remote would not accept any of the codes with a zero in front of them. I even tried a 3 in front of them since the remote instructions indicate that the five digit codes starting with a 3 are for audio devices.

  • Anonymous Jul 31, 2011

If I input all the four-digit codes you gave me with a "0" in front of them, the Comcast/Infinity three-device remote does not accept them: I get a single long flash instead of two short flashes. If I input all the four-digit codes you gave me with a "3" in front of them, the remote accepts them (get two short flashes). However, the last six codes you gave me with "3" in front do not work (0531 1023 1027 0074 0189 0531; note last one repeated); 30135 only turns on the Onkyo receiver (will not turn it off), and 30842 only turns off the receiver (will not turn it on) --- as I said in my initial note. Unless you have another solution, I will need to check with someone else or go out and buy an universal remote.

Thank you for your time: I think my only option now is an universal remote.

I'm sorry that the codes are not working with the Remote to control Onkyo Receiver. The exact codes are 0135, 0842. Please follow the below steps and use these two codes again and check if that helps.

  • Find the 4-digit code number for your device.
  • Manually turn on the device you are setting the code for (used to verify you have the proper code).
  • Press and release the device key you want to program.
  • Press and hold the "Setup" key until device key blinks twice.
  • Type in the 4-digit code using the number keys.
  • If successful, you will get 2 blinks. If not successful, you get one long blink.
  • Use the remote to operate your device (use Power, Play, etc..)

If the above codes are not working, please try the following codes and check if that helps.
0531 1023 1027 0074 0189 0531

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know the result.

In that case, please include one more 0 before all the above codes when programming the remote.

I have researched thoroughly and seems that the code should work with the device. Please add instead of 0 in the beginning and check the operation.

I'm really sorry that the previous steps didn't resolve the issue. Since the codes available for the Remote is only allowing you to turn ON and Turn OFF separately, the remote may not be compatible with the Onkyo Receiver.

You may have to purchase an Universal Remote to resolve the issue. Thanks for understanding.

Yes, unfortunately, the next available option is to purchase an Universal Remote.

I have a onkyo by r540 receiver with a rc 649m remote. I have a manual for the receiver, but none for the remote, nor can I locate one. Do you have a programming instruction for an onkyo rc 649m remote

The Onkyo RC-649M remote was included with the Onkyo HT-S790 (with the HT-R540 receiver), among other sound systems. The directions for using this remote are thus in the HT-S790 manual. Onkyo has this manual here: https://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/manuals/pdf/ht-s790_manual_e.pdf . See pages 13-17 for information on using the remote. Look at page 69 and the subsequent pages for the remote control programming directions and code list. To program the remote for a specific device, press and hold the Mode button (TV, DVD, etc) that you want to program. While holding this mode button, press and hold the Display button (the lowest button on the left side of the remote) for 3 seconds. Then enter the 4 digit code that applies for your device/manufacturer. (If there are multiple codes, you will need to test the remote and try again until you find a code that works.)

I hope this helps.

How do I program an xfinity remote to control an onkyo TXNR708 receiver?

There should be a code to set the remote to in the paperwork yo got with the remote and if it is not there go to the remote's manufacture's web site and see if they show the information. If not send them an e mail asking for it.

We have "HT R670" and "HT R360" A/V Receivers with questions regarding Universal Remotes and Android Apps.

The Onkyo App will not work with the HT-R670. This receiver is part of the HT-S6200 Home Theater package and is not network compatible. You might be able to use the Logitech Harmony Hub and app or another remote control app paired with an IR repeater pointing at the receiver. Some universal remotes may support changing the inputs on the receiver. However, I don't know of any specific model that will work. The Logitech Harmony remotes are probably the most likely to support the Input button; it may take programming a specific button to match the receiver's Input function. If you need a replacement for the original remote, one source is https://www.amazon.com/OEM-Onkyo-Remote-Control-HT-S6200/dp/B0137R62H2 . The manual for the HT-S6200 is available here: http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/manuals/pdf/ht-s6200_manual_e.pdf .

I can't find an Onkyo HT-R360 listed even as part of home theater system. There is an Onkyo HT-RC360. The manual for that is http://redirect.onkyousa.com/redirect_service.cfm?type=own_manuals&file=SN29400649_HT-RC360_En_web.pdf . While this model has a network connection, it is not compatible with the Onkyo app either.

I wish that I had better news for you.

I have purchase an onkyo HT-RC230 receiver. I want to connect a Directv R16-500 DVR & RCA L32W22 TV. Directv satelite service is currently connected to the DVR and DVR is connected composit S ports of ...

This is a rather uncomplicated satellite receiver, and basically only has a left/right audio out.
You can hook these into any of the stereo type inputs on the HT-RC230.
This receiver is also the "wal-mart" brand of Onkyo (not their best stuff) - so I suggest you take the L/R audio out on the DVR and put it into ANY available (cd/tape/dvd) stereo input on the receiver.
You aren't going to get better sound out of any specific input.

Need codes for universal remote

Not sure if this helps, but I just called Onkyo with a request for codes for the SR304. They said the only codes they have are for THEIR remote. Maybe they will work with yours. Here they are:
0276 0476 0810 1187 1376.
I tried these in the Comcast remote (adding a 3 in front of the numbers) but that didn't work. Still trying to get my Comcast remote to program the Onkyo SR304 adequately, since their published codes only partially work.

CORRECT SETUP CODE FOR RECEIVER

Originally Posted by 3FingeredGlove viewpost.gif We can make this work. You didn't mention which setup code you're using, or explicitly say whether the OK/Select button is red or gray (the manual you're using is for gray), so these are somewhat generic instructions. Should work, though. This will provide a power toggle function to the Power key.

Use red numbers for the red OK/Select button remote, grey numbers for grey button remtoes.
Temporarily assign setup code 30842 or 0842 to AUX
1) Tap AUX
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30842 or 0842The remote should blink twice

Assign NEC1 IR protocol device 210, subdevice 108, function number 203 to Power (you don't need to understand these numbers)
1) Press Setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
3) Tap Setup
4) Enter 00051
5) Tap Power (not All On)
The remote should blink twice

Assign setup code 30135 or 0135 to AUX (this is NEC1, 210.109)
1) Tap AUX
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30135 or 0135
The remote should blink twice
