Right click on the HotSync icon in lower right hand side of your computer tray, uncheck Network. Your Palm is attempting to perform a Network HotSync. Only Local should have a check mark beside it.

Handspring Visor Username Deleted; How to Add on Device

To recreate your problem, I have setup the my Visor with no username, placed it in the cradle, and connected the cradle via USB port.

In this configuration, I do receive the same error message that you reported. Multiple issues can cause this error to be generated.

1. Place your Prism in the blue charging cradle. Confirm that the green charging LED is flashing or illuminated (below the power button on the Prism). If the green LED is not lit, then reposition the Prism until it is. If the green LED still doesn't illuminate then check the cradle and it's connectors for dirt and debris. Also check the copper connectors on the Prism for dirt and debris.

2. Depress the grey HotSync button on the charging cradle. The error message will appear. Press OK to clear the error display. If nothing happens when you press the grey button you need to check the copper connectors in the blue cradle and the bottom edge of the Prism for dirt and debris.

3. Check the upper right hand corner of the Prism display for the HotSync application. If any characters appear on the top line, opposite the HotSync header, then that is your username. If no characters are present, then there is no username in the PDA.

Regardless of whether there is a username in the Prism, the HotSync should still be possible. Once you successfully connect the cradle to the USB port and successfully connect to the desktop computer, a popup window will ask you to Create or Select the HotSync User.

Do you receive this popup window on the PC?

If not, your setup or connection probably has an issue.

4. Look at the Prism HotSync screen. Underneath the HotSync icon in the center of the display is a Drop Down selection. The options are
a. Direct USB/Serial
b. IR to a PC/Handheld

Since you are using the cradle, you should select option a.

Once you have confirmed this setup, you need to confirm the desktop computer setup.

5. Be sure to start the HotSync Manager Application on the desktop computer.

6. Left Click on the desktop computer HotSync Icon in the system tray, and confirm that Local USB has a checkmark beside it.

7. Depress the grey HotSync button on the charging cradle again. If the HotSync popup still does not appear on the desktop computer, left click on the HotSync icon and uncheck Local, Modem Network and Infrared and then depress the HotSync Button again.

There is a hidden method in the Prism for deleting the user name.
  • Open the Memo application on your Prism.
  • Tap New.
  • Enter the ShortCut character.
  • Enter a period '.'
  • Enter the number 5.
Whether you entered the shortcut character, period and 5 correctly or not, the characters you've entered will disappear and the memo pad will remain blank. To see if you succeeded:
  1. Depress the Grey HotSync button on the cradle
  2. Your user name appears in the upper right corner of the screen: if it's blank, then your user name has been deleted. The next time you HotSync with this device, you will be asked to create a new user name.
Note: Creating a new User name, will not affect the data stored in the Prism, other than initializing the user name.

There is a freeware application to Change the user name on the Prism, but you would need to HotSync to the desktop or beam the application from another Palm PDA to install it.

Re-arrange port configuration, install latest version of palm desktop. Right click on palmsync icon on system tray and check "Local Serial" . You may also use IrDa as alternate sync method

During hotsync, data wont transfer from Computer to palm

Older palm products and vista aren't compatible. You either needs to transfer info via bluetooth or upgrade your palm if you wish to continue using vista.

HotSync Problem!!

You have at least one application that is attempting a serial connection with the PC and is triggering hotsync instead. Many palm apps that allow live updating to your device when cradled or over blue-tooth can cause this type of error. I would take inventory of any software you added recently to your device or port settings you may have changed, especially regarding direct connect and cradle settings.

Lost all contacts, memos, tasks, after LifeDrive Update 1.0

This morning I downloaded LifeDrive Update 1.0, and when I did a HotSync afterwards, I got an error message saying, Handheld Tasks application database version not supported. Handheld Notes application database version not supported. Now my contacts, memos, tasks, calendar entries and possibly other items are all gone!! This is the core data that is the reason why I use a PDA! I would be totally distraught, except that the data does still seem to exist in Outlook on my PC. I am running Outlook 2002, SP3 on a WinXP machine. Can anyone help to fix this problem? thanks,

Tungsten E - HotSync with Outlook 2003

Don't skip the initial HotSync for secondary computer! Alright, I figured this one out on my own and figured I'd post what I'd learned so that others don't have to endure the teeth mashing, hair pulling, snarling frustration. (self induced as it may be) My experiences have taught me to not always trust a cookie cutter installation wizard...especially for custom app installations (ie: primary = home, secondary=work, total sync, no priority). So, I did not perform the initial sync during installation of the palm software fearing that the new installation would NOT recognize that the work computer was a secondary machine and resultantly wipe out the old palm data from the primary machine. Turns out, as I saw in many other unrelated posts, that it's difficult (if not impossible) to specify conduit direction to outlook 2003 outside of the initial sync (this prompted me to specifically look for conduit direction during install). So, this wizard is one I should have trusted...by mistake...because of weak program design. By the way...once I specified sync with outlook during the initial sync, EVERYTHING works fine despite not having installed the two "imperative" conduit updates (they were uninstalled after several previous failed attempts at this). Hope this helps

Connection is lost (6410)

First open the HotSync custom menu, start changing conduits to do nothing. Work your way down the list until you end up with a complete HotSync. If you still have the 6410 error, unplug the USB adapter, replug and try your HotSync again. The USB adapter may be the week link in this equation.

How do I update my palm with outlook???

1. make sure Outlook is running on the PC 2. make sure hotsync is running - right click on the hotsync icon in the system tray - click custom - set all the things you "want" to sync and setup the way you want them (i.e. handheld over rides PC, they both sync, etc) 3. have VersaMail configured and setup as well...that's where your Outlook mail will come from 4. Push the hotsync button on your cable/cradle This should get you started. If I missed a step, it should be obvious in the Hotsync log, so check the log after doing a Hotsync.
