I am having to replace the shift cable on my Honda self propelled lawn mower HRX 217 TDA, and I can not figure out how to get the belt pulley off so i can attached the new cable to the screw under the pulley. It has some sort of slot with a screw in it, which I believe anchors it so it will not pull out.

I am trying to replace the shift cable on the transmission of a honda HRX 217 TDA, The cable attaches under the belt pulley by a screw with attaches it to the transmission. My question is how do i get the belt pulley off so i can take the old cable off and attach the new cable. Is there some type of pin in the pulley that holds it on? If so how do you remove the pin?

HI.First remove the grass catcher aby pulling the pins that holds on it.Then place the mower in flat surface. The lower the cutting deck along the surface.Release the loks of the height adjustment arms that holds the deck in place.Since the deck is laying on the ground there's no weight on it.The front deck portion is hanging on a rod.Move the deck forward and lift the rod.The old belt is now slack.Take note of how it fits and then remove the belt.Reset the height adjustment to its highest position. Then lift the deck from the moer to work it while in a soacious space.Put the new belt around the pulley make sure ou have a much larger slack .Some needs to be twist around the pulley depending on the type/brand.Fit the deck back to the mower by putting the front rod first in place.lower the height adjustent lever all the way and lock it all the way and lock the rear deck back onto the arms.Place the belt around the engine pulley.Reset your height adjustment on the deck.Repalce the grass catcher and the plasdtic cover.Thank you for choosing fixya.

I have a self propelled lawn mower and the the belt that propells the wheels is loose, do I need to replace it or is there a way to tighten the tension.

Cathy, there is a way to adjust belt tension on some models whether it is by the cable or a slotted bracket where the idler wheel is mounted, depends on make and model. If you have your manual check in it for belt adjustment. Could be stretched belt, stretched cable, worn/oil on pulley, seized tensioner, stretched/broken spring on tensioner, etc.

Selfpropelled portion stopped working, replaced broken belt, have correct p/n for new belt, belt is slack ,self propelled not working

There should be 3 pulleys one on the motor on top of the blade, one on the axle for the wheels and one that goes to your cable to engage that pully and tighten the belt, take the cover off that hides the axle and pull your handle for the self propell and see if its tighting, some mowers have a little adjuster to tighten the cable on the self propell handle or even on the cable itself, did you make sure to run the belt between the guides over the blade, let me know what you find so we can further help

My troy built 210 6.75 hp mower self propelled mower doesnt pull

remove the front black plastic plate that is stamped self propelled and replace the wheel drive belt that attaches the engine pulley (above blade) to the transmission pulley (found under the cover). When you buy the belts, pick up two or three as I seem to go through a couple per season. Hopes this helps

How to replace belt on self propelled lawn mower

There is probably a cover on the front part of the mower that goes to the front wheels. remove the cover and you should have access to the belt. Carefully remove the belt (don't pinch your fingers) push it back towards the motor. You might have to remove the blade. Place new belt in the pulley on the engine shaft then to the pulley up front. Carefully start the belt on the front pulley and slowly turn it onto the pulley.

Yes it can be fixed. Try some basics first.
1) Check under belt drive cover for excess debris
2) Belt and Idler pulley condition
3) Control cable operation
a) rusted, frozen, broken, disconnected

Front ppropelled mower

You dont adjust the belt, you adjust the cable that moves the pulley into the belt. There will be a small single bracket close to the engine side of the mower that holds the cable in place. Simply loosen bracket and move cable until pulley contacts belt enough to engage self propel.

Honda lawn mower, self propelled mechanism not working

check the mechanism first before changing the gearbox its possible that the cable might jump out from the pulley or the cable is worn out or its possible that the gear on the tire is worn out to if not then that would be the time for you to change the gear box it would be hard to change it if you don't have the right tools to work on it if you know how everything work its not that hard to replace it just make sure were everything goes memorize the parts before disassembling cause that would be you guide to reassemble it...goodluck
