I have a Canon pixma mp990 Recently it has stopped printing with the larger black ink cartridge that is meant for printing text (PGI-220BK) All the other cartridges print fine I was using a non-canon cartridge I took it out and put one in from a different brand Still same problem I tried cleaning cycle and the deep cleaning cycle (twice) Still same problem The ink level meter shows the black ink level as going down (presumably due to the cleaning, so the ink is coming out in some fashion) When I print the test page pattern thing it comes out ok but the grid at the top which tests the pigment black cartridge is completely not there. Not with lines through it or badly printed, but simply nothing is there. Likewise I print a document with black and blue text, the blue text prints and all the black is just not there

It looks to me that your non Canon cartridge has blocked the print head. I see this all the time. Remember the compatables are not pigment based but just watered down ink so you can get it to flow through a syringe into the cartridge. This however is the classic outcome of trying to save a few pennies on an expensive bit of kit!

No lights on the ink cartridges, error b200.

1) Turn the printer off. Unplug it from the power source. Open the printer cover in order to expose the ink cartridges.

2) Remove the MP560 cartridges - PGI-220BK and CLI-221. Re-install the printhead, and the ink cartridges before you power up your printer.

3) Cleaning the printhead might solve the problem.

I have a canon mp630

It has been reported that some manufacturers have issued an update which can cause the printer not to run generic cartridges, could also be a faulty cartridge, change this first.

I have a Canon MX850, I don't understand why my big black ink cartridge is full and it uses only the small one, how can I change to use the big one?

The printer use big PGI-5bk cartridge to print documents and text. When you print photos or some other pictures printer use small CLI-8bk cartridge because this cartridge has a photo ink.If you print text and it print blank page that mean the nozzle on PGI-5 cartridge is clogged.Try cleaning test on maintenance menu on printer.

How do I direct my Canon ip4300 Printer to no longer print from the normal black 5BGBK cartridge (empty) but to print from the 8BK (full)

You can't because CLI-8Bk ink cartridge is use only for photo printing. For text, document or gray scale printing the printer use PGI-5Bk.You need to replace your empty PGI-5Bk.

Canon pixma ip4600 black ink problem

The PGI-220 is the larger ink tank and is filled with standard black ink. The PGI-221 black cartridge is the photo black. There is no way to force the printer to use the photo black cartridge (skinny one) to print documents. The photo black cartridge is only used if you print a photo. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling shop and I can't refill these cartridges yet. There is no way to reset the ink level chip without a resetter and any replacement chips you find on the internet are technically violating patent law.

Black ink cartridges

Make sure you are not printing with "photo" settings. Reset to defaults from the preferenceies, select plain paper. See if that solves it.
