I bought a brand new Compaq Presario CQ43 and turned it on, the computer started. i heard the drivers start up etc but the screen stayed black. i went onto a few forums and they said take the battery out, unplug from power. hold power button for 60 seconds. plug back into power and turn on then restart and put battery back in. this did not work i tried it 4 times and the screen stayed black each time. i don't know what to do

SOURCE: Black Screen / Computer Stays in Standby Mode

Completely remove the battery and unplug the power cord for a few minutes. Reinsert battery and power up. You can also hit F8 when starting and see if you can boot into safe mode.

SOURCE: my compaq presario v5000 shut down and wont restart

My Presario v5000 is doing the same as above. Except, I let it cool for a little while and it turned on. Now it only turns off after a while. I'm not to sure exactly why that is but i could possibly be an over heating automatic shutdown procedure.

SOURCE: compaq presario v5000 won't start or post

It's the motherboard. Check to see if yours is still under warranty even if you've had it for over a year.

HP / Compaq has recently extended their warranty period for certain models.

Warranty Check

Black screen upon start up

Remove the battery for 12 min, then power up your computer with your power cable only, then press ESC rapidly , if not, press F2 rapidly.

your computer will start up, i suggest that you remove your graphics card driver and use another more compatible one, because this is the problem!

i also have a compaq presario f572us that's been having similar problems. when i went onto the hp website i saw that apparently they've been having similar problems with this type of computer as they offer free repairs for 2 years after you bought it. you should probably check if this works for you too

My computer starts up perfectly fine, i click the " start windows normally" button, and it loads. Then after loading the screen turns black ( I can still see the LED light and cursor) PLEASE HELP!

When it ask you how you want to start the computer the select Last known Good Configuration. It should boot up normally.
Then go o the control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and check for any devices that didn't install (the ones with the yellow ?)
You will need to reinstall these drivers.

Start Normally (black screen with options)keeps re-loading itself

If you can't get into windows normally or into safe mode to try to restore the system back to a date when it worked properly then you'll need to wipe out the hard drive and start the system from scratch.

Won't stay connected to internet

that might take an uninstall and reinstall of either the ethernet drivers, or the operating system. I haven't heard that, but I have had machines that aren't as reliable in the wireless as they could be. it's possible that something in the workings of it has gone haywire, but it sounds like an OS issue.

Back up everything you want to keep and reinstall the OS if possible.
