What kind of input jack for tape and phono?
You could make the right cable from the ipod to the tape input with the right adapters or correct cable. You want to use the tape line level input rather than the phono preamp input. I am assuming you don't need an external preamp for the phono input.
I have seen this unit on EBay with a 1/8 inch plug added as a mod for ipod or other mp3 input. I image they just connect to the tape input leads and drill a hole for the 1/8 input jack. Then you just need a 1/8 inch cable to go from the ipod to the intercom.
There are dealers that can do the upgrade if you don't have the schematics. some of the upgrades are really over the top.
you can get the manual online at PDF heaven.

Hello, I know this is an old question but it could help someone else... I ended up using one of these Yellow end RCA to Headphone Jack and just filing a groove into the face plate for the cord to fit through and it works just great and is only $2.49 + shipping (we had one of these in our spare cable drawer so it didn't cost anything )

The sound is really low if i press the aux tape cd phono or vcr the sound is there but really low

Instructions:
Evaluate your current receiver. Take a look at the back-panel connections to make sure you don't have a phono input. In most cases, the phono input will be clearly marked. If the connections are not marked, look for a set of RCA-style inputs with a grounding screw next to them; this is a phono input. If there isn't a phono input on your receiver, see if you have an open set of RCA inputs. If they are all occupied by other equipment, you can disconnect one piece of equipment, buy an A/V switcher or get a new receiver--preferably one with a phono input.
2 Purchase a phono preamp. The voltage output of a turntable is much lower than those of other peripheral devices, including CD players, tape decks and game systems. Although the inputs look the same, connecting a turntable to a standard RCA audio input will result in very faint sound output, if you hear anything at all. The output of your turntable must be amplified to a level of about 150 millivolts (mVs) before it reaches the receiver, so a turntable "pre-amplifier" or phono preamp is necessary.
3. Purchase patch cables. You'll need a set to run from the preamp to your receiver. Measure how long your cables need to be, and purchase accordingly. Resist the temptation to "go cheap," because better-quality cables will provide better sound.
4. Connect the preamp into the system. First plug the preamp into an AC power outlet. Most models have a small AC-to-DC adapter built into the plug. Then connect the cables from the turntable to the preamp, and connect your new patch cables from the preamp to the receiver.
5. Adjust the gain of the phono preamp. Most models have a gain control for fine-tuning. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer and adjust your system accordingly.

We have a surround sound system : Speaker craft and B&K are the names. I want to add an iPod system so that this sound can get channelled through our existing system. Thanks for your help.

Any audio device that has a headphone output can be adapted to feed an RCA cable pair for standard stereo to any audio device with a standard RCA input (except one labeled "PHONO"). Get a cable like the one described here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2
and connect it into any available analog input on ANY audio device EXCEPT one labeled "Phono".

I used to have a Audio in function but now that seems to be gone. Im doing the same as before but it is missing. I want to play my ipod thru my system.

What product??

Any iPod, smartphone or MP3 player at its most basic level is just an ordinary analog audio source.

For just listening, any audio device with a headphone/earbud output can be connected to any available analog Line Level input (except PHONO) with a simple adapter. They don't tell you that in the iPod manual because they want you to purchase expensive accessories like docking stations. You'll still have to control the music from the portable device. Oh well.

The answer is a year late, but yes, you can connect a phone or tape and even a recorder using the RCA plugs on the back of the unit. The tape input can be use to connect your stereo system so you have a whole house music system. The music will of course be in mono but the sound quality comes our better.
