I have a murray push mower 6-22271 briggs straton 4 hp. it start and then stalls . filter clean. choke fully closed when control is in full forwrd run/choke position. I pour gas in the throat and pull string. after 2*3 times it starts then 4-5 secs later stalls. I move throtle to choke 3/4s closed pour gas it starts and then stalls. can u pls help. What needs to be adjusted?

carburetor needs to be taken apart and cleaned real good with carb cleaner. try to change the fuel filter first.

Take the Carb off and clean the ports and make sure the float isn't sticking

take the carb apart and clean the jets and pasages

black smoke normally indicates exess fuel, try cleaning the air filter and replace the spark plug

If the mower starts and continues to run after injecting, you may want to make sure the choke is working properly. If the choke plate is not closing all the way, it will make cold starts difficult.

It sounds like you are putting it into choke mode. The choke is usually all the way up on tractors. And it will make it backfire and flood out. Just rev it high enough to work and don't go into the choke mode. hope this helps.

Hi there, It is most likely that the choke isn't closing fully. The throttle cable will need to be adjusted to cure this. The cable is clamped where it joins the engine. Simply slacken the bolt and move the outer cable out a bit. When you operate the throttle control you should see the choke start to operate near the start position. Make sure that the choke control rod operates to its fullest extent when the control is fully on the start position.

the slot on the flywheel and cranck might be worn check this allso check valve clearenc make sure flywheel is torque to spec.let me know want you find out.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A THROTTLE CABLE LINKAGE PROBLEM.WITH THE HOOD OPEN AND MOTOR RUNNING RUN YOUR THOTTLE UP AND DOWN WHILE LOOKING @ THE LEFT SIDE OF THE MOTOR TO SEE IF THE CABLE IS FROZEN IN PLACE OR BROKE OR DISCONNECTED .HOPE THIS HELPS

Change your air filter, spark plug, fuel filter, and oil. Then make sure the gas is fresh. Gas starts going bad after a month. Spray carb cleaner in hole underneith the fuel filter. Oh yea dont put more than 20oz of oil in it.
