Jvc gz-mg175ek keeps saying hdd Problem, will not allow me to format the hard drive and the camcorder will not record as it comes up with hdd error over and over again. Keeps saying i need to formatt hard drive.

you should check out your sd card whether it has virus or not or you may try to format you card.I think it may help you.... if not let me know i'll give you other solutions.
Try to format your HDD on the camera itself. Formatting is available in the menu. Formatting your HDD outside your unit is not recommended. Make sure to back up important files. Hope it Helps
