I would open back and check all boards for cracks, this is a problem with these sets. Then count the blinks on the set and see if it stops for a moment and starts back.

SOURCE: My set is a Hitachi

I am sorry to tell you that this is a problem with the panel itself. The only possibilities for this problem are the buffer boards and the Plasma Panel. Since you have replaced the buffers already it only leaves the PDP. The panel is very expensive and costs nearly as much as a new tv, if not more.I hate to say this but the best way forward would be to sell the working parts of the set(which should fetch you about 300$ on ebay) +couple hundred more you will get a new tv(LED backlit LCD recommended).

Any advice on what board I should replace if the left half of the screen is no good, just showing white and black vertical bars? Right half is fine. Is the panel kaput?

Our Toshiba Regza LCD TV has developed a thin white vertical line down one side and a green horizontal line across the middle. The bottom half of the TV screen then comes and goes in muted and faded...

Hello,

All Plasma and LCD TV have boards that control vertical and horizontal output to their respective areas. They are connected to the screen by ribbon cables. If one of these boards fails all together, has a failed chip, a bad connection, or a bad ground somewhere it will result in a black line in the area of that board. A bad ribbon cable connection on the bottom will result in a vertical black bar though the screen. Many times resetting the connection will fix it, if the ribbon cable has been nicked there could be a severed connection. They an sometimes be fixed, but it is a pain. An yes I have done it, but the bar is gone. The same will happen if the chip that outputs to that area opens. The connectors are the first place to look paying close attention to the cable, they are extremely delicate so great care must be taken . Good luck in solving the problem....

Sometimes after the my TV is one for 20 mins or so the screen warps, shooting white/pink/green lights across the top and bottom of the screen and placing a horizontal black line at the bottom like hal

Your TV most likely has a problem in the convergence circuits. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Ok if your hitachi TV dies with no power anywhere try this:
Some models have a kill switch under the bottom edge. It's like a gray switch like a small light switch press it back in and voila let there be LIGHT. Saves you at least a $200 trip to repair shop!!

DLP HL-R5067W

Your model has a maximum resolution of 720p. What you might want to do is make sure that both your cable/sat box and game stations are outputting at no more than 720 resolution. It's easy to assume that all HDTVs may accept a higher signal, and while they might, some of the scene changes or handshakes may make that operation cause the symptoms you describe.

Line accross top of the screen with flashing black and white boxes

Thin white dashes on top of screen is PERFECTLY NORMAL. It is nothing wrong with the TV, it is the broadcast. What you are seeing is the very bottom of the timecode running. It doesn't happen all of the time or all channels. It usually happens with old 4:3 commercials predating "Digital TV." This is mentioned in your Users Manual. You should be able to adjust the horizontal/vertical position in the menu settings.
