Sony Bravia with Phillps dvd player

Recently I purchased a Sony Bravia LCD tv. However when I connect my Phillips DVD player to the tv, the picture only comes in black and white and grainy.
The tv has no issues with my Direct tv satellite box or my other DVD player, Pioneer. Picture is great with both. I tried swapping cables and even other video port connection with no change.
The Phillips DVD player is newer than my Pioneer, but is the one with issues:

Any ideas?

The DVD player may have multiple output formats that can be displayed. Sounds like you have the composite output selected when you have the component output selected on the DVD player. Check the menu options on the DVD player and confirm they match the way you have the player connected

It's not compatible with the Phillips DVD player. We had the same problem with our old DVD player, something about reading it.

Can't get picture after connecting to receiver nad speakers

Sounds like something got confused in the re-wiring...if the TV signal from cable doesn't involve a box, then the co-ax should go straight to the "cable in" or "RF in" on the TV, and the sound equipment gets connected to output ports on the TV. Otherwise, try bypassing the video connections on receiver or whatever and go directly to TV...My surround sound has video in and out, but I've never used them, it doesn't matter.

Connecting old DVD player to LCD

Just respect the colors. Green output from the dvd to green input tv, Red output from the dvd to red input tv and the same with blue. All 3 cables (green , red, blue) are for the picture, so you got to plug another 2 for the sound.
