I doubt you can help me. I've moved into a flat with a Master Lock Select Access outside the front door. [5401D) I have the instructions but there is no record of the combination, and stupidly I've moved them from where they were. Is there any hope for me? It would be so useful. Thanks. J C G Hooper

Since the exterior side of the lock only has a keypad and no lever, I'm not sure what you mean by the "outside lever". Here is a clear, easy to follow video of the installation. Please carefully review each aspect of your installation against it to see if you can spot an installation mistake:

where the knob is poking out the door trim ,get a conventional oil can and allow the oil to dribble over the knob and slowly run down the knob ,as eventually it may just lubricate the electric door lock solonoid if your lucky after a day or so

No joke... trial and error... its not going to be fun, but work out a system so you don't cover the same number twice.

You have 10,000 combinations to go through. Best to cut if off and bring it some place comfortable to try out all of the combinations from 0000 to 9999. Or take it to a machine ship and have someone grind the thing open.

Since it was new then I can only surmise that it was installed improperly. You or your landlord will have to take it back out and properly install it. Make sure that the male and female parts of the lock all fit together smoothly. Use your key and operate the lock several times before you screw it all back together. Most of the installation instructions are very detailed and you should be able to see what step might have been overlooked. Hope this gets you in.
