If you scroll through these lawn tractor questions, you will note a lot of failed hydrostatic transmissions in the husqvarna line. seems like that is the prime suspect in your problem, if the drive belt is good. i had one and the transmission failed after about 5 years, but I see many with fewer years of wear
with the same problem. a new transmission costs about half of what a new tractor costs. these are actually made by the AYP company which pays a licensing fee to husqvarna to use the name. AYP makes most of the mower lines you see in stores. my neighbor has a craftsman with a bad deck which seemed identical to the husqvarna, except color. However when i went to cannibalize his transmission it was completely different and would not bolt into mine, so i went out and bought a simplicity.

Question edited for full make model (what it is).

Sounds like one side of the gear selector cable is slack.

I have a craftsman 54 riding mower . It will start but won't go forward or reverse.

Check the lock out lever on the back of the mower. Has someone pulled it out? If so, push it back in and you'll have both forward and reverse then.

My ridding mower when i I put in reverse it works but whenI put in forward geer it wont go

Does the mower have a brake lock? This will often allow you to go in reverse but not forward until released.

Have a John Deere lawn tractor. It starts and runs fine in forward gears, but when put in reverse it stalls . Any ideas what it may be? Could there be a faulty limit switch of some sort?

does it stall when mowing in reverse?
its supposed to do that
look for an over ride switch or button some the key has to be in reverse position to mow

check owers manual

Hello,

It sound to me that you have put the battery on the wrong way round.
