Hi,
You may have a sensor the reports information to the board reporting the wrong information and causing this problem. Also possible is the evaporator fan could not be working causing the lack of air flow. At this point I would suggest to have a service call done to find the correct problem. The service person needs to use a laptop to service the unit correctly, this will assure all sensors and fans are running up to speed. If your in the SoCal area I would be glad to help.
Good Luck

Fridge Won't Cool

First off that "condenser fan motor" needs to be replaced. It is not running near the speed it needs to. (I replace those all the time on the job) Here is the replacement to order. Also, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the main control board is sticking in defrost and you will need to replace the main control board on the unit. GE has an updated control board that address's this problem along with some other issues the original control board had. Here is the updated board to order.
All the parts come with a 365 day, any part, any reason return.

Ge side by side frig won't defrost gss25sgmb new heater motherboard thermostats

Replace the thermistors #4 and #5 . 4 is the white bullet looking piece on top of the coils inside the freezer , with 2 white wires . 5 is at the bottom of the freezer , on the left side . These thermistors tell the main board , the temp and the board goes into defrost according to temp the thermistors "tell it " .

To fix up a frosted up vents, I had a control board replaced for $180. Then 6 months later, the bottom freezer frost up AGAIN. rather than dumping more money to fix it, I was about to buy a new fridge, but had a crazy idea: I disconnected the water to the freezer, bought plastic trays for ice cubes for $3 at walmart. Fridge has worked like a charm for 6 months. no signs of frost. Saved $1000's.

Had similar problem, freezer was working fine, but fridge was warm, (68 degrees) It wasnt my damper, the mother board was fried, and so was the inverter board that told the compressor what to do, after having the inverter and two mother boards replaced.......I threw it out, biggest piece of ****, only three years old, and Sears would not stand behind it, even though I used their repairmen. I will never buy another GE product, or enter a Sears store again

GE top freezer fridge forming ice on wall of freezer

Hi the thermostat could be the cause of your problem but check the temp of the compressor put your hand on it and it should be about room temp any hotter and this needs replacing also look on the pipes at back where they run on the outside check as much as you can and see if it has any frost on any of these pipes.
As its forming on one side then it might not be thermo but check compressor first and make sure its not running hot ok then get back to us
