I removed the battery and now the car won't start

'I disconnected the car battery/changed the car battery and now my car won't start'

Another common question on Fixya.
You've done nothing wrong. It's simply that the immobiliser doesn't recognise the key.

Put the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition on. Press the LOCK button twice on your remote. Wait 1 minute.

Turn the ignition off and press the UNLOCK button on the remote a couple of times. This will disarm the immobiliser.

The key should be recognised and your vehicle will start.

Seat belt light doesn't turn off even when the car is turned off.

You have either a short to ground on the black/white wire going to the seat belt switch or you have a bad body control module. Disconnect connector C3 at the body control module and check for good ground with the seat belt UNBUCKLED. If you see that, it's the BCM

Mk4 gti vr6 has power but doesn't start, runs with pop start

Could be a number of things but may want to begin by checking wiring to starter, battery, or even the ignition switch. These components may not turn your engine light on.

Dashboard lights out

Try disconnecting the negative bbattery cable for 5 minutes to reset the system control module, if that doesn't do it you will need the dealer to look at this.

Car keeps over heating because fan doesn't turn on

Your car has electric fans and they are activated by a switch that is mounted in the bottom of the radiator. What you need to do is verify first that the fan motor is good. After that then you want to "jumper" the switch and see if the fan runs. Jumpering is when you disconnect the wire from the switch and use a piece of wire to connect the wires of the harness together as if the switch was "turned on"..If the fan works then the switch is probably bad, If it doesn't then I would look for the fan "relay"..

1995 chevy lumina sensor went out and fan wont turn

How did you determine that the sensor failed. Did the check engine light come on? When you say that the fan won't turn, do you mean that it won't turn on and run or that you can't physically turn it by hand. To determine this, disconnect the electrical connector to the fan and try to turn it by hand. It should turn easily. If it doesn't then it must be replaced. If it does then reconnect the electrical connector to the fan and try to operate it by disconnecting the temperature sensor lead and placing a jumper wire between the terminals of the harness. turn the AC control to AC/MAX and turn the ignition key to on. If the fan runs then the problem is the sensor. If it doesn't then check the fan control relay and any related fuses. WARNING : Use extreme caution when testing the fan circuit. Never attempt to turn the fan with the electrical connector in place. The fan can operate at any time even if the engine is off.

1995 Volvo Horn keeps blowing with key in ingnition, and engine running

You can do this for now so its not driving you crazy, then get it fixed.
If your car horn starts blaring and seems to be "stuck" (it won't stop blowing), you could be in for a few embarrassing moments. There's nothing quite like the stares and expressive hand gestures you can draw as your horn takes on a life of its own. There are a couple of things you can do to get the horn to stop.
If it got stuck when you pressed on the horn switch on the steering wheel, it could be because the switch itself is stuck. Press the horn switch again, or tap it a few times to see if it gets unstuck.
Turn off the engine and look for your fuse box. Look through the circuit descriptions and see if you can find one for the horn. If you can, pull the fuse. This should silence the horn immediately.
If you can't find the fuse box, can't remove the fuse, or the horn doesn't turn off, then you need to resort to more drastic measures. Open the hood of the car and try to locate the horn. If the rear of the horn is visible, you might be able to see the wires that lead to it. Disconnect the wires. If you can't disconnect them, then cut one of the wires. If you cut the wire, wrap the resulting two ends of the wire with tape so that they can't short out your electrical system.
You could disconnect the main wires that run to your battery. You shouldn't cut these but should disconnect them using a wrench. This might "reset" the horn. Hook the wires back up and if the horn doesn't turn back on, you should go directly to an auto repair shop to figure out what is going on. If the horn does turn back on, you'll need to locate and disconnect (or cut) the wires to the horn as previously described. Then, go to the auto repair shop and let them replace the horn for you.
