I tried to hook up an external "Sharp" monitor to my Lenovo G555 using a VGA chord. It did not show on the monitor. I went through the control panel and picked "Connect To a Projector". I finally gave up on trying to get that to work, but now my Lenovo laptop G555 screen is small/square instead of the wide screen view I usually have. How do I get it back to what is was before?

I will give you some universal function keys to solve your problem

press and hold this:
Fn F3
Fn F4
Fn F5

do this one at a time

others does not function with Fn they use ctrl button. Try to press and hold ctrl with the button mention above with not pressing Fn

Lenovo screen red

Your problem is either the LCD itself or the video cable could be bad.also it could be a sign that your video chip is getting ready to go bad. try hooking your Laptop to a external Monitor using the VGA port.if your picture is good then I say look into the lcd or cable.

External Acer AL1917 stopped to work with Lenovo 3000 n100 as an external monitor.

No signal means you have a different input enabled somewhere...like TV/HDMI/VGA ...you are set on some input other than the one you need for your cable. Check the menu settings, if you have a remote, try the input button and try a different setting

Display are not showing cleanless

Try connecting an external monitor to the computer and see if it displays better. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then your video card inside the computer is good, but your lcd screen is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same way with problems, then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the video shows on the external monitor that proves your video card is ok, ,but your lcd screen is bad. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

Does Lenovo 3000 Y410 support dual monitors

Yes.

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF.
Connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port, on the back of the laptop.

The VGA port is on the right side, as you view the back of the laptop.
This is a basic example of a VGA cable, and a VGA port, (Connector),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

NOTE* Color does Not matter.

You can use a CRT monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By default the display should show on the external VGA monitor.

IF not;
Press, and hold down on the Fn key, and at the same time tap once on the F3 key.

No?
There are at least 3 display options;

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY

2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor

3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Hold the Fn key down, and tap again on the F3 key.

(The Fn key is down at the bottom LEFT corner of the Keyboard.
The F3 key is at the top of the Keyboard.
The F3 key is the Display Toggle-Over key )

Need more information post in a Comment.

Laptop screen is not showing anything after power is on

if the power is on and the screen does not show up , try to hook an external monitor using the VGA cable. If the screen does show up, it means that the problem is in the laptop LCD monitor itself. Otherwise if the external monitor does not show up, that means your laptop does not boot anymore to the operating system. Try to turn off the power and remove the power cable and battery on the laptop. Then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the battery and power cables on the laptop then turn on the laptop. If there is still no screen displayed then call Lenovo for repair of your laptop.

Trying to connect Lenovo IdeaCentre desktop to HP w1907, monitor keeps popping up the message like " no input signal' on VGA or DVI, DVI is always checked as default. Then going to sleep right away. Push...

wow no OS stated, nor model of Lenovo.... (so generic answers)
i guess you have no manuals on any of this. right>?
is this HP question, if the HP monitor works on other PC its ok.
so end HP worry. (my guess is HP is OK, totally) 19"LCD is OK.

leaving what, LENOVO.!! (unnamed? a stinkpad?)
this is a HP forum, so cant tell the hot key for External VGA
on any Lenovo. but you can RTM the book on it. easy.

that HP VGA monitor message means.
1 thing, the 3 video and 2 sync lines are dead.
in non geek means the VIDEO CABLE IS DEAD.
try running the PC in F8 mode this puts WINDOWS< (is it./)
in to LOW RES mode (poor) and all monitors work there.
all. (last 25 years)
if still dead, you need to use the hot key to turn on VGA, on all laptops
my HP laptop as 3 modes, VGA on , VGA off and AUTO.
nice no? that AUTO.'
The PnP wakes up the port. is that magic.

The VGA port must work, and the LCD both.

is this one of those beasts called an all-inone desk top
than name you used tells the helper nothing
as that name used for many form factors.
all in one
regular desk tops.
and more.even pocket pc.
now idea at all what you have (hp is clear on that end=)

Broken screen, external monitor via VGA won't

Press "Fn+F7" once, wait a few seconds, and press it again, to "cycle" through all the possibilities (LCD-only, VGA-only, both).

Try the monitor with some other computer (desktop or laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Restart your computer -- does the initial "splash" screen (showing CPU speed and RAM-test) show? Does the "Windows" screen (with the crawling worm) show on the external monitor?
