  • Anonymous Sep 05, 2008

I can't get the grinder out to clean. Is there a release button? Help!

  • kca1 Sep 06, 2008

The grinder basket will not release. I don't know how to remove it.

  • Anonymous Sep 07, 2008

I have the problem as well.

  • mark354 Sep 07, 2008

Same problem here with two different machines.

  • racerken Sep 18, 2008

    Ditto here. aggravating!

There so much time devoted to making a d@#m cup of coffee with machine and all its parts. Now I have to figure out a way of getting the grinder cup out of the machine because it's stuck. If I'm successful I'll have to deal with yet another step of adding vegetable oil or mineral oil to the step. Yikes! I'll buy ground coffee from now on.

I have the same problem and came here to find a solution. The general consensus seems to be to buy ground coffee. Seems like Cuisinart got the better of us. quell dommage

i was so mad this morning when this happened , ugghhh, same problem , plus my grinds were caked inside and all i had was dirty water in the pot , i couldn't remove the grinder to clean it -so i scraped it all out and wiped it clean with a paper towel, took the filter basket out and had to clean it out underneath, than i took my vacuum and used the attachment and removed all the caked up stuff out for now ,, its a temporary solution until i can fix it and wash it the right way ,,, i have to have my coffee!!!!!!!

I have the same problem. I purchased a new bean basket but it also became stuck after a week or so. I now use ground coffee only. What a disapointment for an expensive coffee maker.

  • pinksterbruz Dec 26, 2008

Same issue, grind basket won't come out to clean - what a mess. Itried to pry out with a screw driver or pull with a pair of pliers - NG. What poor design for a "high end" maker. I'm getting in touch with Cuisinart - probably tell me where to go, but I have to try. Thanks.

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2008

mine is stuck forever. My solution, opt for a french press, makes better coffee, has no parts to speak of, and you can microwave or boil the water to make it hot. Best cup of coffee ever and you can grind your own coffee.

  • desertdreame Dec 27, 2008

Mine does the same thing and it seems to be getting worse! Anyone have a solution??

  • Anonymous Jan 05, 2009

We have the same problem, I can never get the coffe maker grinder out, my husband has to do it - impossible to clean. Then the other day I think because of this problem the grinder went crazy and it seemed like the machine was going to take off, or burn out it's engine. We turned the machine off manually only to discover that some wires had come off internally, either burnt through or broken by the wirr of the spinning, it was a circular group of wires. Now the grinder doesn't work at all. Can't get a phone number or find a service center...they sure don't build things like they used to!

Same problem-grinder stuck in less than a month of use. So disappointed in Cuisinart - thought this was a quality line. Store where purchased out of business right after Christmas. Will NOT mail it back to Cuisinart.

I fixed the problem on my coffee maker fast and cheaply! I found that the stem that the grinder sits on had a small crack vertically in the hard plastic. That caused the diameter of the stem to swell just a bit larger and the grinder to bind to the stem. My solution was to remove some of the material in the area that was binding on the stem. Since the motor for the grinder turns at a high speed, I let it do the work. A file worked very well for the job. I by-passed the safety cut-off plunger, by pressing a rod into it, hit the on button, then carefully held the file to the area to be filed. I then used medium sandpaper to smooth everything
If you try this, be sure to not take off too much material and only file in the affected area. Also we are by-passing the safety switch - so obviously use caution. I only did thiis a couple days ago but so far the ginder comes out very easily. Here are a couple picts.

Same problem and I'm the husband that always got it unstuck...... until this morning. I read somewhere that putting the whole machine in the freezer will work. I did and the grinder just lifted out without any pressure at all! My wife was laughing at me when I was looking on line for a solution but she just smiled when it was removed.......

Put the whole machine in your refrigerator freezer for 2 hours. The grinder basket should now come off. Take the whole unit to your shower and rinse it thoroughly in plain hot water. Dry it. Then look at the point where the basket joins the brewer. You should see a little spindle and a set of helical gears. You will see the same helical gears on the basket itself. Now, spread white lithium lube on the gears and the spindle. None of this is anywhere near the water flow so you won't get lube in your coffee. All of this should solve the problem of the stuck basket.

I used a screwdriver as a wedge as well, and was able to pop it off. Then I oiled both parts that make it spin--the stem, and the hole the stem goes into--and was able to take it out.

Experienced the same problem of grinder being stuck..... ordered a new grinder unit (including cover) thinking it would solve problem. It did not!
New grinder has a fresh new blade that probably works a little better than my old grinder. My solution was to remove the grinder with a screwdrive wedged in the back of the grinder cup-be careful when doing this. Once removed, rub some vegetable oil on the stem in which the grinder basket sits. A little oil on a paper towel will suffice. Makes the grinder removeable after use. I have done this each time I use the grinder and it has helped tremendously.

Instead of the freezer, put ice in the grinder cup. It came out after about an hour

I have the same problem (this must be a manufacturing defect if so many of us do) and tried the oil solution. It worked very well for a while and doesn't work anymore. I now buy ground coffee.

I have no solution I wish someone did.

I followed the advice given by someone on you site but I used a little mineral oil on the post about every third time I use it, works like a charm.

Bitter taste

You will likely find the bitterness is a function of your coffee bean choice or the 'roast' component of that coffee. Darker roasts tend to taste bitter.

I have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffee maker that is about a year old. The lower half of the grinder gets stuck. It used to be occasionally but is happening more frequently. It is very hard to get it...

These are notorious for this problem. It is cause by the coffee grinder portion wearing out and sticking. After a while the grinder will fuse to the basket. It is cause by the spinning of the grinder and wear to the grinder shaft or coffee grounds getting into the shaft and causing wear. Either wan the only fix is a new basket.Send Cuisinart an email to complain and they may give you a new one free. I went through 3 before I gave up on the grind and brew model.

I have a grind and brew and can't get the grinding basket out to wash.

Open the reservoir lid. Remove the grinder basket lid by using the recessed area on each side of the lid. Then remove Grinder Basket. Open Filter Basket Door. Remove Filter Basket Cover, Filter Basket and Filter Basket holder. The grinder basket, grinder basket lid, filter basket and filter basket cover can be washed in warm soapy water and rinsed thoroughly, or cleaned in the upper rack of the dishwasher. Dry all parts after every use.

DGB 500 Grinder

You may try opening the front cover first and removing the filter then after opening the top lid, remove the clear grinder cover and lift the grinder from the rear. After you get it out be sure to clean the motor drive shaft and the bottom of the grinder. then use a trace of vegetable oil to lubricate the motor shaft where is attaches to the grinder.

We are on our second coffee maker and it makes great coffee.

Coffee basket

Called Cuisinart - they said to remove the basket ( I unplugged and then used pliers to move the blade/shaft up and down until it wiggled loose ) ... use soap and water to remove coffee oil (the real problem) and then pour a little vegetable oil into the female end where the motor engages the grinder blade to lubricate.
