Caller ID won't work.

Picked up a used 770 yesterday. I have windows XP and now have been able to send faxes. I want to use the attached phone for incoming calls but my Caller ID doesn't show up when one comes in. I only have one phone line and am using a splitter to connect to the fax and my laptop. Also, it won't let my other phones ring sometimes and nothing shows up on them when they do ring. Any ideas on how I can get it to work? Also, the date didn't change this morning--still says 29th and it is the 30th.

Fax machines are designed for a dedicated phone line only.

No computer modems, no answering machines, credit card terminals, no digital phone lines, etc.

FYI on the fax: Analog ports (ATA's) on the Norstar system do not show Caller ID, instead you would need to use a line share device that supports caller id such as the STICK.

Incoming call does not show in caller id window all the time. sometimes it simply says "incoming call" without identifying the caller. other times is works proberly.
Caller ID information is sent after the first full ring. If the call is answered too soon, the caller ID information may not have been sent yet. Some of the many and varied networks do not send caller ID information. In this case you may notice that caller ID is missing only on calls from certain callers. Occasionally bad data is sent, causing your phone to reject it.

Caller ID in POTS networks is a service which has to be subscribed to. The local exchange (to which the user's line is attached) has to allocate a DTMF sender for each and every incoming call, for it to be picked up by your phone and shown on its screen. Talk to your phone company for further informations.

Caller ID problem with KX-FHD332
Your fax machine does not actually have CALLER ID, it reads what the sending fax machine has programmed into it. If it was never entered in, you won't see it.

I can not Receive a Fax, says I have no caller ID
This behavior occurs because the program that you use to access the modem or fax does not use Telephony. For example, this behavior may occur if you use the Windows XP Fax service, and all the following conditions are true:
  • You use a PCI Modem/Fax card.

Usually, fax machines don't have caller ID capability.. If the sender's fax number appears on the faxes you receive, it's just that they have programmed it into their fax machine as a header.
