Ipod won't sync to Itunes

Hello, I am having an issue with my Ipod. It gives me an error code when I plug it in saying that it cannot sync because the files or directory has become corrupt and unreadable. Someone on the Apple site suggested (to someone else with a simular issue) that this could be caused by locked files in the directory. I am good at following step-by-step instructions, but have no clue how to even access this directory so I can *see* if anything is locked. Any ideas? Thanks!! recently my computer broke,i can't use it anymore, and im using my laptop  , i downloaded itunes  and everything i needed  for my ipod , i synced it ,and now it won't sync again . i really need to sync it . i've tried everything, it just won't work. what should i do??                                 any one , please!!!=D

maybe - just maybe - if you plug it into your computer and then, if a mac, do the 'get info' bit and look for the info regarding if a file or device is locked.

Because you have all your music already backed up onto your pc you can safely erase your ipod. Have you already tried to do a restore on it yet. To do this connect the ipod to the pc and in itunes on the ipods main screen click the Restore button, then choose the bottom most option if it gives you any. If it says to erase the device anywhere, all the better, select that one.

If that doesn't work, assuming you're on a pc and not a mac, open 'My Computer', right click the ipod, select 'Properties' then erase it as you would any harddrive. Once you have done either of these you can resync it in itunes.

All the best

I have had the same problems, did all types of restores, formatting, downloading itunes and nothing has changed. I went through about 5 ipod classics because of this problem, Apple could not help me on bit. I later on found out the problem.... My case for the ipod had a magnet inside it which messed up the hard drive causing me to get all types of errors when i tried to sync it or just tried to listen to it. Hope this helps.

Yes, I have had this problem. First, I would disable the automatic sync with the iPod and ITunes. You can do this by going into preferences in iTunes. Download the latest version of iTunes by checking for an update. Then click on your iPod in iTunes and restore the iPod to its original setting. This will erase the whole iPod. Then you can sync it with iTunes again. That should fix the problem.

Does your ipod actually work or no?
if it works put it in disk mode by pressing the menu and center buttons and holding until the apple appears and switching to the center and play buttons and holding until the check mark appears.

then plug it in the the usb and see what happens.
if it mounts to itunes try and restore. if not go to my computer and see if it is there. if so right click on the drive and format...not quick format use full format.
then repeat the steps before until you get it mounted.
more than likely you have a virus and the virus is not letting the restore program delete it.

When you wiped the old computer and then reconnected to the new computer, it reformatted the player, causing data corruption. I would try all five of these suggestions, but first try uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple/iTunes software: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano.
