Hi sjkhofer,
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust and any fine foreign objects the lens can't read any disc. If you have a CD/DVD Lens cleaner, play it to the unit. If this is not available you may manually clean the optical lens. Open the cover and gently clean the eye of the lens by smooth, clean, soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this, just a gentle stroke only.
2.Check the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.

Hint : Most of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens was faulty.

If you can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the symptom.

Also, check if your unit is under warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Don't attempt to open the cover(it will void the warranty).

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

I have a 05 grand prix gt. my dash lights go out plus all warnings are showing up on screen. Turn signals don't work as well as head lights when this happens. Then it goes back to normal and then...

have you checked the DIC fuse and dash fuse to make sure they are tight. The DIC (instrument cluster) will light anytime it senses an issue with the data feed to it. You might just have a loose dash cluster connector or a loose DIC harness. Try jiggling some of the harnesses under the dash when the car is running normally and see if you can get the DIC to do the same symptoms.

Gb2312_unicode.dic missing

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Everex stepnote nc1510 wont reconize new battery

Were they genuine Everex OEM batteries, some cheaper replacement batteries don't always work.

I just had a look for Everex but apparently they no longer exist so genuine batteries are probably no longer available now..

I need to find SOME kind of adequate replacement tweeter or dome or horn for a Yamaha MS150 powered speaker. (used for instruments or PA) The only specs i have are: The back of the magnet reads...

That is a very wide range cone type (oval) type tweeter that probably covers from around 2500 Hz up to 20KHz. You will probably NOT be satisfied with generic speaker... this one is special for sure. Try calling http://www.speakerrepair.com/ocsdiaphragms.html and see if you can get it reconed. Most speakers that are cheap will NOT take the power that the amp will deliver.

My friend's xbox disc's don't work we think it might be the xbox or the dics. What should we do?

well if you put in a xbox games that isnt scratch and it wont read then my guess its the drive thats not functioning right especially when even movies wont play also thats a sign does it spin up when closed if not then thats a sign also, if it does spin up but not reconized could mean the laser might be dirty or not working. All in all it has to do with the drive just gotta trouble shoot it down with detail
