What type and size memory card? The A430 works with SD cards. It won't work with SDHC cards.
SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Pull the sd card out and look on the left side with the card facing you. You will see a slide switch on the left side. It is probably in the down position (locked). Move the switch up and the card will be unlocked. Done!
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.
have you a card reader, transfer of files is usually quicker Can you not just plug it in via usb lead and it recognise it as a camera?
try here if you need drivers etc. Remember to select your operating system at the top of the list: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=16347#DownloadDetailAct
First try uninstalling and reinstalling Zoombrowser. If that doesn't help, it's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
Have you tired to unlock memory card unlock button ? SD cards do have write protection physical lock. take a look at this pic and unlock it, good luck!
