Installed a new Filtrete thermostat on a new Carrier high-efficiency furnace. I followed instructions exactly. It doesn't work. What did I do wrong? Furnace was installed in December. Broom handle cracked faceplate of Carrier thermostat and rendered it inoperable. Installed new thermostat according to instructions. Connected white wire (labeled V+ on the old Carrier thermostat) to the W terminal on the new Filtrete thermostat. Connected red wire (labeled Vg on the old Carrier thermostat) to the RH terminal on the new Filtrete thermostat. The Filtrete thermostat has a jumper between the RH and RC terminals. The new thermostat display and programming are operational but it doesn't seem to be talking to the HVAC, No AC, no fan, no heat.

I think the model number of the Filtrete therm is 3M-30. The old Carrier therm is A07049. I think the Ac is 2 speed, but I'm not sure.

I discovered on my own that the Filtrete thermostat is not compatible with the Carrier control module on the furnace. I have just ordered another Carrier thermostat.

The information from the experts was not helpful. They only sent .pdf files of the documentation I already had.

Hi smargyle,

Welcome to fixya!

I can provide you with diagrams for the old Carrier therm and for the new Filtrete therm. But, I would need to know what the model numbers are for each therm plus how many speeds AC you have.

Please reply back with that information and we will get your AC back in working order.

Thanks,

Handie Andie

Here is the pdf document for the Filtrete thermostat. The wiring diagrams start on page 7: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...

This web address is for the Carrier therm: www.favret.com/pdf_files/thermostats/tp_prh_3si_install.pdf

Page 15 has the wire coding for the Carrier.

You should be able to check for correct wiring with these 2 documents.

If you still have a problem getting the AC to work once you check the wiring, please reply back and we will look further into it.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

    Andie

Furnace computer won't let furnace light

What is the model number? I have an SLP98 (installed on 11/29/2011).... and if I take the cover off the front of the furnace the panel that has the fancy "Lennox" badge on it) you will see two clear round windows about the size of a half dollar (one high on the furnace box and one lower on the blower box.) If you look downward into the window on the blower box you can see a red LED display that will sometimes flash error codes like E228 (one character at a time). If your model has something like this, let me know. I've done some DIY fixes recently out of necessity....and their easy.....and several technicians confessed they didn't know much, if anything, about the newer high effieciency Lennox gas furnaces.

Thermostat doesn't activate unit

Put a volt meter on the red wire and the C terminal. You should get 24 volts AC. If not then the control transformer is shot

Just purchased a Filtrete 3M-50 Wifi Programmable Thermostat. I have a Carrier Crusader furnace. I need to connect the Blue wire in the furnace to a terminal so I get power to Wifi module in thermostat....

You'll need the manual for this and electrical knowledge. The Blue wire is the common wire that is needed to supply the 28 volts to the thermostat. The problem and potentially life threatening hazard, is the 28v is off a 120 or 240v transformer and, without proper understanding of electrical diagrams as well as ensuring all power is off the the unit, you can connect to the wrong terminal and burn your house down or electrocute yourself.

I Highly recommend hiring a professional to install that wire. If you insist, I will need the exact model number of the furnace to get the proper manual to help further.

We had a new Carrier Weathermaker Infinity Gas Furnace installed in our home on 9-21-99.The Carrier people said the furnace was in good condition this past October. But prior to that as of April 2010 the...

Your Carrier guys more than likely are Carrier dealers. I would get a second opinion. Most qualified HVAC techs can work on any and all brands. It doesn't need to be a Carrier dealer to work on a Carrier. AND, if they replaced the control board and didn't test the heat, that's a fault on their part. Anytime we change a board or even a thermostat, we check ALL modes and functions. SECOND OPINION!!!

Honeywell thermostat RTH6300b will not shut off at

I had this same problem with my 6300B thermostat. I did not see this when I installed the tstat and did setup for it the first time. If you go to page 16 of the install guide, there are instructions for setting up your tstat for your furnace and AC. The setting I had wrong was on page 20 of the guide. It defaults to a setting for a furnace/ac that is less than 90% efficient. When I changed the setting to a furnace that is more than 90% efficient, the fan not turning on or off problem went away. The setting on page 20 should be set to "3" if you have a more than 90% efficient furnace/ac. Hope this helps your problem

Carrier Infinity DC motor drive problems

Contact the company that installed the unit. Its new, under warranty, Anything you do could void the warranty. If they do not take care of the problem without charges contact Carrier and tell them what's going on. The company who installed the unit is responsible for making it run correctly. Good luck. kstfas
