Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Use this manual to help you sort out the problem: (8.43 mb)
http://applianceassistant.com/pdf/inDoorIceSystem.pdf

Motor

The motor is now located on the freezer door

in a foamed-in-place enclosure under the "dispenser

bubble" area of the inner door panel.

The motor is mounted to a plastic mounting

bracket, which, in turn, is mounted to the enclosure

with four mounting screws.

The motor operates on 115 volts DC (115 volts

AC is delivered to the motor, where it is converted

within the motor assembly to DC). This

gives the motor a higher RPM than the earlier

dispenser motors, and results in a faster ice

delivery rate in both the cubed and crushed

modes.

Crushed ice is delivered by turning the motor

in a clockwise direction, and cubed ice is delivered

when the motor turns in a counterclockwise
direction.

See pages 36 - 40 (starts on printed page 5-12) for checking the motor and the switch pack.
This will deterime what has failed.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

    hello,
i am just kind of wondering why something generic would be sent to answer that question ,when it takes just a quick second to search the model number listed and see that it isnt the new style where the dispenser is in the door ,yet it is the older style, i have been a appliance tech for a long time and wonder why ppl give bad advice

This auger bin has a mechanical crusher that is actuated by a solenoid in the rear of the cabinet. It solenoid is item 33 of this link:

    http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partse...

There is also a yoke assembly item 34 and a yoke guide item 22.

If you do not hear the solenoid in addition to the auger motor the solenoid has most likely failed. If you hear the solenoid but still do not have ice then either the youke or the yoke guide has a problem.

The service manual for this unit is 16010154.pdf and the solenoid and yoke are on page 61 of the manual. (net search 16010154.pdf)

The auger motor makes one revolution approximately

    every three seconds. To determine

the free movement of the auger

motor, place the selector switch in either

cube or crushed position (slide selector

models). On electronic models, push the

cube or crushed selector pad. Open the

freezer door, push and hold the cabinet interlock

switch in the closed position (cabinet light switch) while

    pushing the dispenser actuator pad.

The solenoid is energized only when the

selector switch is in the cube position. This

will pull back the actuated blades. To determine

the free movement of the solenoid/

yoke assembly, place the selector switch

(slide selector models) in the cube position.

On electronic models, push the cube selector

pad. Open the freezer door. While pushing

the dispenser actuator pad, push and

hold the cabinet interlock switch in the

closed position. Observe the control rod

    yoke for vertical movement.

    10. To check the solenoid yoke assembly,

attach an ohmmeter to the solenoid terminals.

    The meter should show resistance.

If it does not show resistance,

    replace the solenoid yoke assembly.

    11. Remove the four screws that fasten the

solenoid yoke assembly to the enclosure.

    Remove the assembly from the

    enclosure.

Also check movement of the ice / auger bin lever and see if it is actually moving on the ice bin and that it moves arm on the crusher assembly of the ice bin. If it is not actuated by the lever you may have to replace it..

Pull outthe ice bucket and you will see a metal arm/lever on left side of the bucket, look in the back wall of the freezer where that arm fits into and most likely it will be frozen into place, that goes up and down to close a door in ice bucket and hold the ice in while it crushs it or it opens the door to let cubes out whole(uncrushed) wiggle the plunger a few times and it should free up . if it does move freely and isnt froze in place the soloniod the operates it is defective.

Ice maker problems

Not sure which refrigerator you have but on mine when you select cubes there is a baffle that is pulled out of the way making the opening large enough to allow full sized cubes to pass. When you select crushed the baffel is left in place forcing the ice to pass through the crushing section. My guess is they are all probably about the same. So either the baffel peice on yours is missing, electrically stuck. Hard to say for certain with out seeing it.

Fridge Freezer model KA58NP90 Ice maker problem

What is most likely your problem is the crushed ice solenoid. This solenoid, which is located next to the auger motor behind the ice bucket, is failing to actuate when you request cubed ice. Its "home" setting is crushed, and actuates to allow cubes past the crushing mechanism in the bucket. To be certain its the problem, remove the ice bucket, and tape the door light switch in the closed position. actuate the ice dispenser lever, for both cubed and crushed ice. you will see a square hole next to the rotating fork, when you select cubes, it should open. If it does open, there is something wrong with your ice bucket, perhaps the arm is broken, or the door inside bucket is off its snap in type hinge or broken altogether. If it doesnt open, replace the solenoid

Ice maker crushes ice will not extrude cube cubes

Your ice bin is out of alignment. Pull the ice bin all the way out and re-insert it and make sure it locks in place. When you re-insert the bin, look underneath the bin. You will see a metal rod. It must go INSIDE the yoke at the rear of the freezer, NOT under the yoke and NOT over the yoke. In the yoke.
This is a common problem and will happen again. The ice bin has a way of dislodging itself. If the rod is not in the correct position you get crushed ice regardless of the setting.

Ice maker only makes crushed ice, no cubes I have the same problem... The same switch works fine for the crushed ice and water setting but will not dispense cubed ice. It only gives crushed.

hi.
I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck.
chek these sites
http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/23620-ice-maker-only-makes-crushed-ice-no-cubes.html

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783

Ice maker only dispenses crushed ice, won't dispense cubed ice anymore.

I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.

I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.

Crushed ice only

Behind the ice bucket is a metal housing that holds the auger motor and solenoid.  The solenoid is bad.  When you go for cubed ice that solenoid should pull up the metal rod on the ice bucket so full cubes will come out.  First check to make sure the metal rod on the ice bucket isn't somehow caught under the solenoid and not letting if move up and down.  You can take out the ice bucket and press for cubed ice.  You should hear a loud clunk noise.  If not then you know the solenoid is not working.
