I cannot get Nikon D70 to download photos to memory card

Nikon D70 is an old camera if you put a new CF in it - it may not work. CompactFlash© (CF) (Type I/II, compliant with UDMA) MicroDrive. So it works with Type I and Type II

My nikon d70 will not regonize the sd card and gives a format signal

The D70 uses CF (compact flash) cards - I hope you are simply misnaming the CF card. But, if you did use an SD card, it would explain how you could have bent a pin.

I understand that Nikon is moving away from CF cards because of the 'bent pin issue' as well as the limited capacity of the CF card.

So, first I would try a CF card (any size) in the reader. If it still doesn't work, then I think you might check with a camera repair shop. If it is a bent pin, they can fix or replace the card reader. Note that the D70 body can be replaced with an EX rated used body for under $90 at https://www.keh.com/shop/nikon-d70-6-1-megapixel-digital-slr-camera-body-only-9782.html

Thus, I wouldn't pay $100 to have the reader fixed unless there are extenuating circumstances. Good luck.

What is your question? Yes, the D70 uses CF cards. They should be available at just about any electronics or office-supply store.

Vikram, first of all take no more pictures with the memory card. You'll need to use recovery software to recover your photos. There are very many freeware options for your to choose (here's a short listing with reviews). You'll need to use your computer's card reader with this software. Now AFTER you've recovered your photo's, you'll need to initialize (format) the card in your camera (DON'T use your computer to initialize the card). This will erase the card, but it will also help prevent this instance from reoccurring. Look in your camera's menus for the format option.

Nikon d70 made a folder incorrect

You can download a memory card file recovery software that should let you get to the files. You need to go to the website of the company that made the card and get their software. (Sandisk, Kingston, Transcend, ...etc.) It may cost you money, depending on the card you bought. For instance, the software comes free with Sandisk CF Extreme III's, but not with the regular speed cards. This won't always work, but it usually does. I always format my cards on the PC every time I transfer. You have to format again when you put them into the camera though, so plan ahead before you go shoot.

Nikon D70, displaying error code 'CHA' when memory card inserted. Unable to format or use memory card. Have tried new memory card, still same problem.

CHA errors indicate a communication issue with the CF card. Your card could be going bad, you could have a broken pin, or any number of other problems.

I'm running into this same problem now. If anyone has a good step-by-step to troubleshoot which of the dozen things this error could be, I'd appreciate it.

For myself, I'm planning to start by trying a new CF card.
