Pin 3 Left R EAR (or R OUT) Pin 3 Right R RETURN

The Pin layout for the power and other connector are as follows:
avatar23454_10.jpg

the layout for the audio header is as follows: avatar23454_8.jpg

To install the cable that connects a front panel audio solution to the front panel audio header, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer. Turn off the computer and disconnect the AC power cord.
  2. Locate the front panel audio header (J8A1).
  3. Remove the three jumpers from the header (this disables the back panel audio connectors).
  4. Install a correctly keyed and shielded front panel audio cable.
  5. Connect the audio cable to the front panel audio solution.

To restore back panel operations follow these steps:
1. Remove the front panel audio cable. 2. Install a jumper on pins 5-6 (rear R channel). 3. Install a jumper on pins 9-10 (rear L channel). 4. Install a jumper on pins 1-2 (mic). 5. Replace the cover.

Hello. When I plug my headphone with mic into the front panel jacks, it does not work. Now if I disconnect my speakers and plug it in the back jacks, it will work. However, the front joacks are there for...

Open up your case.
You should see cables running from the front panel to the motherboard. On the motherboard you will see a multi-pin connector. What is your exact ASUS motherboard model? Here's a generic ASUS one. You will see this on the motherboard where the front panel connects to the board. A bunch of pins will terminate here.

99e1753.jpg

Notice the pin labelled MIC. You will see GND etched on the motherboard. Use this to orient yourself. The Mic one is just below the GND pin. Connect it here. Notice the entire top row is devoted to FP_Audio or Front panel Audio. There are other places to connect it (e.g., if you just want stereo sound, there's a left and right FP_R and FP_L).

Move the mic connector over to the Mic pin if there is one. If not, you can get a cable at your local computer supply shop. As you can tell from the others, they are very basic wires with simple terminals.

I want to know where the connection points are on the motherboard for the front mic and audio jacks. I have a epox ep-5pdaj motherboard. Will you send me a diagram please.

You need to remove the two jumpers from the pins, this is where you connect the front panel audio connector, if your case has each wire separate. then please look at this webpage http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-015851.htm look at the part "For AC97 Front Panel Audio" PIN 1 should read MIC. If not, then scroll down, you are reading the wrong part of the page.

HOW TO CONNECT FRONT AUDIO PINS

the connector is marked F_audio and it is located directly behind the rear facing audio jacks. should be only one plug either marked "hd audio" OR "ac97 audio". some cases are setup for either, but you only need one of them depending on what your motherboard supports.

11) F_AUDIO (Front Audio Connector)
This connector supports either HD (High Definition) or AC97 front panel audio module. If you wish
to use the front audio function, connect the front panel audio module to this connector. Check the pin
assignments carefully while you connect the front panel audio module. Incorrect connection
between the module and connector will make the audio device unable to work or even damage it.
For optional front panel audio module, please contact your chassis manufacturer.
By default, the audio driver is configured to support HD Audio. To connect an AC97 front panel
audio module to this connector, please refer to the instructions on page 72 about the software
settings.

The front 3mm port is disconnected and I don't know where to hook it back up. I can't tell from the manual.

The front 3mm ports are for mic input / headphones output. The pin connectors are as follows. You need to use the JAudio header, which are in the lower-right corner of the motherboard closest to the front of the case when it's installed.

This header has 14 pins, and allows user to connect the front audio out put cable with the PC front panel. It will disable the output on back panel audio connectors.
Within this header, pin 1 is in the lower left corner, and pin 14 is in the upper right corner, like this:

2 ... ... ... 14
1 ... .. ... 13

The pinouts are:

1 Mic in/center
2 Ground
3 Mic power/Bass
4 Audio power
5 Right line out/Speaker out Right
6 Right line out/Speaker out Right
7 Reserved
8 Key
9 Left line out/Speaker out Left
10 Left line out/Speaker out Left
11 Right line in/Rear speaker Right
12 Right line in/Rear speaker Right
13 Left line in/Rear speaker Left
14 Left line in/Rear speaker Left

How to connect the front panel sould device?

Do you mean speaker or front panel audio? The front panel audio connector is located at the rear of the board, behind the PCI connectors - the speaker connections are in the panel connector block (2x10 pin header) located at the front left of the board.

With the board in it's normal position, the speaker pins are on the right hand side of that block, on the pin nearest the front and the one 3 positions behind that

Headphone problem

Did you installed all drivers ?

Are there FRONT audio jacks you are trying to connect your headphones/mic ?
Dit it work before ?

First install all (incl. audio) drivers and try to get audio from BACK connectors (Green is speakers/headphones, Pink is Mic.)
If it workson on REAR, but not on FRONT connectors, check if you have another icon for AUDIO settings in Control panel and try to set FRONT audio settings.

Check if FRONT audio connectors are connected to your motherboard.

Regards.
