I would go to my default settings for programs I do not know your computers operating system or what you are using for Windows but I will assume Win XP. You have to go and set this for opening chat room sessions. Their will be Messenger and Yahoo they are conflicting with each other. You can do this also by going and closing down the MSN that is popping up when you go to Yahoo Messenger go to options in the MSN and select do not login at startup automatically and do not start automatically when Windows starts up.
Also you can go to startup programs which are starting automatically. To do this go to START then GO TO SEARCH PROGRAMS or Win XP go to RUN then type in without the quotes, "MSCONFIG" then go to Startup Items look for anything like MSN or Messenger MSN anything like this then select stop do not delete it. Just close it from starting up automatically.
This should stop the program from connecting when you are wanting to use Yahoo Messenger for all your needs. Once you get to control panel click on default programs and then click on default programs again at the top of the menu and look for chat or MSN for Microsoft or Yahoo Messenger make this default to open when it starts.
I hope that this assisted you with this issue. Thanks for using Fixya! Please post a vote for me if I assisted you. John

When you install Yahoo! Messenger on your computer, the program is adds itself to your computer's startup list. Each time you boot your computer, Yahoo! Messenger, and all other programs included in the list, starts automatically. Having too many programs on the list might reduce your computer's performance. To prevent Yahoo! Messenger from loading and popping up on your screen each time you boot your computer, you must remove it from the startup list. Yahoo! Messenger allows you to disable automatic startup through the program's preferences menu.
1.Open Yahoo! Messenger and log in your account.
2.Click the "Messenger" button at the top of the Yahoo! Messenger.
3.Click "Preferences" and the "Yahoo! Messenger Preferences" dialog box appears on your screen.
4.Click "General" and remove the checkmark from the box labeled "Automatically Start Yahoo! Messenger."
5.Click "Apply" and click "OK" to close the dialog box.
I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

Is this a new installation or has it worked before and now doesn't work?
