Hi,
Can you please advice me what's the problem with my d-link 2640 as after i configured the status LED still blink? Is it the reason why I cannot connect to network?
Thanks.
The light internet must be solid, but the light of "activity" will be blinking according of your activity If you can not get connection, check your settings.
When entering the IP address of the D-Link modem (192.168.1.1 for example), you are not connecting to a website on the Internet or have to be connected to the Internet. The device has the utility built-in to a ROM chip in the device itself.
Note:Your computer must be on the same IP subnet to connect to the web-based utility.
Here are a a few steps to try if you are unable to access the web-based configuration utility:
1. Make sure you have an updated Java-enabled web browser. We recommend the following: • Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher • Netscape 8 or higher • Mozilla 1.7.1 (5.0) or higher • Opera 8.5 or higher • Safari 1. or higher (with Java 1.3.1 or higher) • Camino 0.8.4 or higher • Firefox 1.5 or higher
2. Verify physical connectivity by checking for solid link lights on the device. If you do not get a solid link light, try using a different cable or connect to a different port on the device if possible. If the computer is turned off, the link light may not be on.
3. Disable any internet security software running on the computer. Software firewalls such as Zone Alarm, Black Ice, Sygate, Norton Personal Firewall, and Windows® XP firewall may block access to the configuration pages.
Note: Check the help files included with your firewall software for more information on disabling or configuring it.
4. Configure your Internet settings using the following steps:
Step 1 Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Step 2 Double-click the Network and Internet Connections Icon.
Step 3 Click on the Internet Options Icon.
Step 4 From the Security tab, click the Default Level button to restore the settings to their defaults.
Step 5 Click the Connection tab and set the dial-up option to Never Dial a Connection.
Step 6 Click the LAN Settings button. Make sure nothing is checked. Click OK.
Step 7 Go to the Advanced tab and click the Restore Defaults button to restore these settings to their defaults. Click OK.
Step 8 Close your web browser (if open) and open it.
Step 9 Access the web management. Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link modem in the address bar. This should open the login page for your the web management.
Step 10 If you still cannot access the configuration, unplug the power to the modem for 10 seconds and plug back in. Wait about 30 seconds and try accessing the configuration. If you have multiple computers, try connecting using a different computer.

Since your D-Link 2640 is a modem + router it may not work the way you intend.
You need just a wireless router without modem.
Run a small Ethernet patch cable from your Paradyne modem into the WAN port on your router, you can plug your existing Ethernet cable into one of the other LAN ports on the router, then access the router setup using the computer connected to the Ethernet cable using a browser and putting the router's IP address into the address line of your browser. It will most likely be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
Once you have configured the Wi-Fi router you will have your wireless network. Full instructions should come with the router.
Routers are available for as little as $29.95 but expect to pay closer to $79.95 for satisfactory speed and capability.
The UDS has the following LEDs, which help you diagnose problems. Power LED (green) Ethernet 10/100 Link (yellow = 10 Mb/green = 100 Mb) Ethernet Half/Full Duplex Activity (yellow = Half Duplex/green = Full Duplex) Diagnostic (red) Status (green) Simultaneously lit Diagnostic (red) and Status (green) LEDs mean something is wrong. If the Diagnostic LED is lit or blinking, count the number of times the Status LED blinks between its pauses. The following table explains the LED functions:
Make sure that you have a copy of the latest firmware and it has an *.exe file with it. Because the router's configuration page won't be available, you'll be needing the exe to some sort of force the firmware upgrade procedure.
Unplug everything attached to your router except the power cable and LAN cable connected to your pc.
Configure your TCP/IP with this info: IP:192.168.123.253, Default mask:255.255.255.0, Default Gateway:192.168.123.254 and DNS Server:192.168.123.254 (Use only 1 DNS server). Save this new configuration and reboot your pc.
Unplug the power cable to your router as the pc reboots. When everything is up and running, plug the power cable. The status led will be flashing like crazy. It's normal.
Use the exe file to upgrade your firmware. Make sure that the utility file (exe file) is able to recognize your router or else you won't be able to do a firmware upgrade. Now this may take a while, keep pressing the Refresh button to recognize your router. Once recognized you would see there 192.168.0.1 crash. Once you have this, you can now press the upgrade button.
Wait for a while until the unit finishes the upgrade and once done, I think you have recovered the life of your router from the pits of hell. Hahahaha.
You can now unplug the power of the router and restart your pc, see if everything is doing fine.
hi ,,,
i got yor problem.
as ya said its not allowing ya to log nto it with security enabled. Ya can try to log into it with the ethernet cable as their wil be an
ethernet LAN port onthe access point.
I f ya know the default or the present ip of AP then ya can assign a static ip of the same range to yor computer like eg. ap is 192.168 .1.1 then your comp can have 192.168.1.10 and ya can log into it thru the ethernet cable and disable the security.
i hope ya know how to assign a staic ip add to yor compuetr. or check the screen shots on brivers.com n select the "network connections" screen shots to assign a static ip address to yor' comp.
feel free to chat with me on samrat101 thru yahoo or msn messenger or drop a mail on [email protected] for ny wless n ipphone issues -- take care ,, samrat
