Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
Sometimes when adding music to your iPod through iTunes on a
new computer or another computer, the program will attempt to synchronize the
device with the music available on the computer. All songs on the iPod, but not
in your iTunes library will be removed. This can cause problems for people who
just want to add songs to your iPod without losing their old music.
Fortunately, Apple allows users to manually add music to the device, avoiding
the problems of synchronization.
1. Open iTunes.
2. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB cable. A
prompt will appear warning that the device will synchronize the music to
remove. Click "Cancel" if this happens.
3. Click the iPod listed under "Devices" in
"Library". This opens the "Summary" page for the device.
4. Check the "manually manage music and videos"
box to the bottom of the page.
5. Click on "Library" on the left sidebar of
iTunes. Mark all the songs you want to add the device. Drag and drop it on the
iPod listed under "Devices."
