I presume the machine has its own telephone line. Lift the handset and make a telephone call. Can they hear you ok? Can you hear them OK? If both ok then have them ring the fax and you answer it with the handset. Can they hear you ok? Can you hear them ok? or can you hear crackle on the line or any other strange high frequency noises? If you hear these noises then your telephone company will need to clean the line. Thats usually why this problem arises. the SF5100 was Samsungs best fax in my opionion. It did not suffer from any problems except wear and tear like all machines.

The fuser unit will need to be replaced. It's possible that the heat lamp or thermostat of the fuser has failed, but getting those individual items could be difficult. The fuser unit should still be available from a Samsung repair center. Search on line for your nearest authorized dealer. You will continue to be able to send regardless of the fuser.
Machine will require fuser(hot bit at rear) replaced before it will operate, take to dealer for quote or if brave and 240v happy then buy a fuser and get your tools out rip off the covers and in the back you will find fuser assy.
There maybe 1000's of reasons for this but the most common is that the ECM mode is turned on (ECM =Error Correction Mode) turn this off and try. There is one other common fault try doing a copy of a document and see if that come out ok. If you are getting the same fault the scanner unit is faulty and will need replacing.
Check inside the paper tray area to see if the paper sensor flag is dislodged. Otherwise it will be a board problem. Vacuum clean out any toner spill. Try a can of compressed air to blow any paper dust from any sensor. They will be the little black U shaped devices. Make sure the flafs move freely in and out of the sensors.
