I have a 79012-19 gas range and when I turn on the regular oven or convection oven you immediately start to smell gas and then it never gets to the proper temperature. It has been taking a long time to preheat and then you could hear a loud boom when the burners would turn on. Now don't think the burners are lighting at all.

You more than likely have a bad ignitor...and if you are getting a l;oud boom the you should also consider replacing the gas valve for the oven it should not be letting gas out until the ignition is hot.

your correct the only difference between a regular oven and a convection oven is that it has a fan.when you open the oven door the fan should be spinning to a stop if this is not the case you may have a problem with the fan.

Oven takes too long to reach temp and the smell of gas

Sounds like a weak ignitor is not opening the gasvalve completely. Only testing the amp the ignitor draws will confirm. It could also be a sticking valve. Have a professional verify, this is not safe.

Kitchenaid electric convection range - preheats just perfectly in regular bake mode, but takes forever on convection bake. This model has 3 elements - broiler, lower covered element and a convection...

Put an oven thermometer in the oven on convection bake and check the actual temp inside. I'll bet it's not maintaining the correct temp in convection.

Oven Burner turns off during preheat

Mike, I think your problem is in the ignitor itself. Turn the gas off and see how many amps it's drawing during the bake mode. It needs between 3.2 and 3.6 amps to keep that valve open. Then ohm out the temperature probe, appox 1132ohms at room temp. You can see if your electronic control will go into a quick test by pressing and holding the cancel and broil buttons together for 3 seconds. First kill the power to the range and power back up before entering. When quick test appears you can check the bake relay by pressing bake. The relay should activate and 1 should be displayed. Same thing for convection bake except the fan should run too. Catriver...post back.
