I just had a similar problem with my Whirlpool dryer. It would squeek very loudly and then chirp a bit and then go quiet.
Took the back off and found that the belt tensioner arm pulley that drives the drum turning had stopped spinning. Sprayed some silicone on the hub a couple of times and it freed up and is working again. Everything is fine for now. I'm going to order a new part 'cause I know it will just happen again when the silicone wears out.
worn felt seal on the front of the drum. felt has worn away exposing the rubber, when the dryer gets warm the rubber gets sticky. this causes loud vibrations and friction. the drum wont turn so the belt breaks. i would not trust this job to any one but a miele tech, as it is very complicated and someone that does not know how to work on this dryer can cause more harm than good.
YES IT IS THE MOST COMMON REPAIR FOR THIS BRAND. PART NUMBER IS 5303281153. REPAIR BEFORE IT BREAKS OFF AND SHORTS OUT THE HEATING ELEMENT. http://www.searspartsdirect.com
It sounds like the felt pieces which guide and help to support the drum are worn out. If you get the full model number you should be able to order them at www.appliancepartspros.com Good luck.
Hi, I've had a similar problem (I think) on my MDG7400 dryer. There was a cyclical squeak, metal against metal. It turned out to be the screw that holds the drum paddle to the drum. It had worked itself loose and was scraping against the inside wall of the dryer. Remove the front door lift the top, and tighten 'er up. Hope that helps.
Yes it still squeeks and it still drys and it kinda stops being so loud after the dryer has been drying for some time. Need help on solving this iissue and how to fix it.
Rubber tired drum support rollers or drum felts have worn
open case and remove drum
as described in any of the 'change belt' posts
examine rollers. at rear of drum
if damaged replace in pairs
If rollers are good(unlikely) examin felts and nylon glide surfaces
Have you recently painted or finished any woodwork or floors? A gas dryer will smell like gas when the vapors from paint or finishes reacts with flame. It can smell like gasoline.
