Hi,

This is a car audio video unit
So to connect this unit electrically, they usually require 3 wires for power for it to switch on.

  • The thick black wire is a earth or negative wire, which connects to the negative side of the battery or to the body of the car.
  • Then there is a red and yellow wire.
  • The thicker of the 2 wires red or yellow is constant 12volt power, which should be connected to the positive side of the battery or to constant 12volts in the car wiring plug.
  • The other red or yellow which is the thinner of the 2 is a accessory wire, which means it has 12 volt power only when you turn the key to accessory or motor running.
  • So yes both RED and YELLOW require power for the unit to be on .
  • This is for radio station presets so it doesn't loose memory when you turn the key off, otherwise every time you turn the key you would have to store your stations again.

I hope this helps you.
If so please leave a vote or comment.

Have a great day

I need to know where the wires attach to on the capacitor. I have 2 yellow wires and one white/red tracer. my bro in law took them off and I dont want to blow up the capacitor installing it the wrong way.

The two yellow wires stay together on one pole of the cap and the white/red wire goes by itself on the other pole. It does not matter which pole is which so long as you keep the yellows together on one and the white/red on the other.

I have the wires all hooked up correctly but the head unit will not turn on. When i connect both yellow and both red together it works but wont keep memory

the yellow is your memory wire. it has to be able to stay hot when you take the key out of the ignition. see what in your car still works when you turn the key off, then just connect the yellow wire to that.

I bought a C80 Raymarine Plotter this has a NMEA pigtail with Brown, Screen, Yellow, Green And White wires I haave also bought a RS 125 Receiver this has a pigtail lead with Red , Green, Yellow, Brown and...

If you have a Raymarine pilot it makes sence to wire it all up to Seatalk. Wire as follows Red to red , silver to silver, yellow to yellow, brown(on rs125) to silver on seatalk buss Green (on rs125) to red on seatalk buss. The above is for the conection between RS125 and C80.
To hook the pilot to system you just need to hook the seatalk lines (red, yellow, silver) from the pilot to the conection with the RS125 and the seatalk cable to the C80.(Color for color). The sea talk connection for your pilot can be picked up from you course computer they are labeld and colored on the unit.
If you are not running a course computer as in the case with the older wheel and tiller pilots you will need to take a sea talk cable and cut it. Once it is cut you will see the red yellow and silver wires and you can tap into there . Remember to connect the cable back together were you cut it. Hope this helps

Ok i am putting in a alpine head unit in a 99 neon i can get it to hold the memroy i have to put the red and yellow wire together and do the same on the wiring bracket and when i put all for together the...

The yellow wire must be connected to a constant voltage source. You have the red and yellow connected to a voltage source that only gets power when the car is turned on. The yellow wire is for the memory. Check the fuse box for a fuse that has voltage on it when the car is off and the key is not even in the ignition. That is the type of connection the yellow wire needs. The red wire can stay connected to the place it is at now.

Are you using a harness that is made for installing a radio into a 99 neon? They sell them at most all places that sell car stereos. Go in and ask for an installation harness for your car and then you connect it to the harness that comes with your radio by matching the colors of the wires and you have a nice and easy install. It plugs right into the factory harness with all the connections you need.

Kenwood kdc 3011 rests its self every time i turn the car off

This means that the power lead you connected the red and yellow to is a switched live and each time you turn off the ignition the power goes off and therefore resets. to fix this problem you need to connect the yellow to a permanent 12v supply that stays live when you turn off the ignition.

Connecting Block

HI! I`ve got big problems with mine where I think that it want re-syncing, ie reset all the gears and cogs etc. I can`t find a schematic anywhere. Anyway, I`ve just nipped out to our Peugeot 307 and drawn down the wire positions for you. Here they are:-

------------------------------------------------------------------------
! ! Dark ! Green ! Red ! Red ! ! !
! Yellow ! ! ! ****** ! ! !
------------------------------------------------------------------
! ! !Green/ ! ! ****** ! ****** !
! ! Yellow ! !Yellow ! !Yellow !White !
------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE. The wires marked with ******, are twisted together in the loom. THERE ARE TWO RED`S AND TWO YELLOWS.
I hope this sorts your problem. All the best. Ian

Thanks, I got it right. The blue 'remote' wire stays unused and the red 'ascessories' and the yellow battery supply for the clock and memory are coupled together.
