I was going to reset the alarm for another time, somehow I messed up the actual time and the time I wanted it set for in the morning, now I have the wrong time and nothing will reset correct.

This is easily fixed. Set the time manually the 1st time. Make sure you use the CORRECT time, which is four minutes less than what the clock said when you first plugged it in. Once you reset the timing, it will remember the four minute difference and always show the correct time.
Sometimes the colon is the 'seconds' count - did it always do this? Try to unplug for 1 minute and then reset the time - if it still flashes I suspect that it was a built in feature - some do this...
