Check the vtech website. They are attributing the problem to low voltage on the phone line. My parents started having this problem with a pair of Vtechs that I gave them. I never had the problem but they are.

Nokia designed the N97 with a touch-screen calibration program to remedy problems with the touch screen. Opening the touch-screen calibration program requires you to use the touch screen, which can prove difficult. You're forced to judge where to tap the screen because the screen isn't recording the precise location of your taps. To find the touch-screen calibration program, open the main menu, select "Settings" and then "Touch Input." The program provides on-screen instructions to help you finish calibrating the screen.
The 6041 isn't an answering machine. If you have an answering machine connected to your phone line, consult its documentation. If you subscribe to a voicemail service offered by your phone company, contact them for information.

First this is a good machine, I use the same one and have my fax setup for the same thing. If you have a (TAD) Telephone Answering Device first you have to set up your phone to pick up before the fax, do this by setting the phone to pick up on three rings and the fax to pick up on four. Go to Menu/Fax/Setup Receive/Ring Delay. While there make sure Easy Receive is on. The machine itself will distinguish between regular calls and facsimiles and will display this info at the time of the call on its LCD screen, make sure you are using the line connection and not the phone connection. Hope this helped.
