  • vmcm5657 Jul 17, 2011

I has to reboot my c drive using alt f10 on my acer 5580 notebook. it went through the whole process of setting up windows and then the launch manager was installing software drivers. It goes through this process with a blue rectangle screen which has the message "thank you for choosing acer". This blue screen does not clear and when the pointer is over the blue part of the screen it is a cirlce as if it is doing something but nothing happens. I can't do anything else on the computer as all windows open behind this blue rectangle. Help please!

Managed to get the computer back into the recovery in f10 and rebooted again. problme resolved itself

Hi,
If you already restored your computer to factory default settings and it hangs on the initial screen of ACER, then that means that this is a hardware problem. It means one POST (power on self test) component is failing that is why it freezes on the initial screen.
If you are comfortable in servicing laptops, you can tear it down and test these three major components. RAM, Video Card and Processor.
If not, Please bring your laptop to the nearest service center especially if you still have a warranty on it.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

Turn off your laptop. Power it up again. Press "F8" as the computer boots up. A boot menu will appear. Select "Safe Mode" from the list of options. Click "Yes" on the next menu to start your machine in Safe Mode. Right-click "Start" once the laptop boots up. Click "Properties. Select the "Device Manager" option under the "Hardware" tab in the window that appears. Find the "Display Adapter" icon. Right-click on it and select "Uninstall." Select the display driver from its location on your laptop when prompted. The display driver will be reinstalled. Restart the laptop when prompted. This should fix the problem.

Check very well, there is something you are doing wrong, because when you right click on the start menu, you should have properties from the small box that pop up, please check very well.

  • Anonymous Jul 17, 2011

    YES, it is very correct.

  • Anonymous Jul 17, 2011

Click on each of the icon displayed to search for the hardware icon.

  • Anonymous Jul 17, 2011

Ok, let us try another way out, this is another procedure entirely, Find the name of the file that caused the error within the blue screen
message. It is located at the end of the line of text beginning with
"The problem seems to be caused by the following file." Note the file
name. Turn off your laptop. Boot it up again and press "F8" to enter the boot menu a second time. Start the laptop in Safe Mode.
Click "Start" once the laptop boots up. Open the "Search" window and
type the name of the file you wrote down from the blue screen error
message. Ensure the "All Files and Folders" option and the "Search
Hidden Files and Folders" option under the "Advanced" tab are checked. Type the name of the file into the "Search" bar. Right-click on the file
when it appears in the box and choose the "Open Containing Folder"
option. The folder that contains the corrupt file will open on your
screen. Right-click on it and choose "Delete." Open the laptop'
Recycle Bin, right-click on the deleted file and select "Delete" again. Restart your machine, this should fix the blue screen error.

How do reset my acer labtop to factory setting like restarting the whole thing erasing all data

I dont know if this will work your notebook it work for acer 5515 so try it.
On your Logo Boot ( this is when the acer name shows in your monitor) press "ctrl + f10" or if it doesnt work try "alt + f10"
this must load the recovery system page. Now in the recovery system page
Click on " Restore System to factory Default."
Then click "Next", "Next" then "Ok"
Just wait for the process to finish and when your asked for settings. just choose your own settings.
Now after recovering to factory default. i suggest not to do anything until your pc has completed installing your drivers and various programs.
If you see a "Acer" install toolbar at the bottom of your screen, your pc should restart after atleast 2 seconds.
Now after reboot your pc should now be ready.
Goodluck. Hope i help, please rate my solution , Thanks.

Hi.

Because the laptop is brand new there is nothing else we can tell that you haven't already done.

The only other thing that I can suggest is safe mode. If you can see the Acer logo or post information when you first turn the laptop on then repeatedly press the F8 key to get to the advanced boot options menu and then choose safe mode from the top of the list. Wait until the computer has booted and then click on the Start Menu > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program. Look in the list of installed programs for the internet dongle software and try to uninstall it.
If you can't see the program then I suggest that you use the recovery option to set it back to factory defaults.

  1. Plug in the AC adapter and battery.
  2. Turn the system on
  3. Immediately, press ALT on the keyboard and start tapping F10.
Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up.
  4. A screen stating "Starting Acer Erecovery" should appear.
(Release ALT and stop tapping F10 at this point)
  5. There will be 4 options:
    1. Restore system to factory default
    2. Restore system from user backup
    3. Restore system from cd/dvd
    4. Exit
Choose option 1 and follow the instructions. If you have set up a password for Acer eRecovery then have it handy to enter it.

If after all this you are still getting the same symptoms then I suggest that you take advantage of the warranty and take/send the the laptop back as being defective.

Good luck!!

I need to reset my aspire 4315 series back to factory settings as it's not running properly, I've lost my hand book and can't remember what to do, could you possibly tell me what buttons to press when to...

First plug in the Notebook to a power socket with your adapter. Power on the Notebook and you will see the Acer splash screen. Immediately prell ALT and keep tapping F10 at the same time. It will take you to a screen where you will see "windows is loading files" or "starting acer recovery" it will ask you, how do you want to restore?" choose the option "restore to factory default" and click continue. It will go through the restore process and within 15 - 20 minutes it should finish the process. Your Notebook will be back to factory default settings and once again you can see the OOBE.

Hope you find this solution helpful.

Installing XP

Acer computers come with a factory restore partition installed from the factory. The following instructions are direct from Acer's support website:

Back up all data prior to using this procedure.

Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up.

  5. There will be 4 options:
    1. Restore system to factory default
    2. Restore system from user backup
    3. Restore system from cd/dvd
    4. Exit
Restore system to factory default
  1. Enter the password created when eRecovery was first started.
  2. Read the on-screen warning and choose Yes.
  3. Click Next. The recovery process will start.
When recovery is complete the system will re-start and will need to complete the setup of Windows.
When setup is complete a process will clean up the recovery files.
