Broken screen. i think both internal and external. it's pretty bad. replace screen? or buy new tv? or buy broken tv with in-tact screen? i paid $450 for this tv, so what is most cost effective?

Probably just a bad screen. Easiest way would be to connect the laptop to an external monitor or LCD monitor (at work, a buddy's....) and see if your laptop's video shows up normally on an external screen. Screens are pretty cheap to buy and replace.

what happens when you try to connect to an external monitor? you may have a bad back light power inverter. how old are your batteries? in some cases if the batter pack isn't holding a charge then it may put a load on the power supply.
if you connect an external monitor and it stays on then it is a bad back light inverter. if it does the same thing then you may have a power supply problem. i forgot to ask if the laptop has been dropped or fell off a table, chair, bed, or desk? how is the power plug that plugs into the laptop? you also may have bad power jack!
3 things that may be bad or defective:
1) power jack
2) inverter board (i'm thinking this your problem)
3) batteries or internal power supply
items 1 and 2 can be fixed, but if it is a battery(s) or bad internal power supply. replacement batteries are about $50 and up, replacement laptop mother board it may be cheaper to buy a new/used laptop. however, you would want to save your data on this laptop if you can or someone do it for you.
i have worked on Dell computers for 10 + years out of my own repair and custom shop.
oops almost forgot with the new hd tv's there is a "PC Input" on the back where you can connect your computer or laptop to!! so if the lcd screen doesn't work and you cannot afford a replacement back light inverter board($120) then spend $15 or less for a male plug to connect your laptop to your lcd hdtv .
but doing this you will loose portability unless replace the inverter board!

Only Toshiba service centre can help you. The cost of replacing the screen so high, it is better to buy a new one. I think someone has broken the scree. If you want to buy a new TV, look for a TV which has a glass front before the screen. These TVs are high end.

The tv LCD screen panel itself it is dead,by force.Sorry,no not repairable.Only way to repair this tv,it is to replaced the whole LCD screen panel itself,not practical or possible because the LCD screen panel it is mission impossible to buy as a refurbish items,only can buy it from tvs manifacture itself only,but it 90% important to the tv and it functions and it is very limited production items,so they'll sell it to u,but the cost it is the same as a new tv.Buy a brand new tv it pretty cheap these day at Walmart stores.Tries buy another tv same make and model as ur old tv.Save the dead broken LCD screen panel old tv somewhere for later years,as refurbishes electronic PCB boards for ur new tv later uses.

Most companies will not warrant a new screen in shipping, but It will cost as much as the tv is worth to replace. It would be cheaper to buy a new set. If you don't have anyone that has the same tv to swap it out of . If you buy on Ebay, then shipping is the problem, it may get broken in shipping

Unless the display panel is physically broke, i doubt it is bad. i would get a second opinion.

you will have to replace the lcd or buy a new one.

The screen can be replaced, but it is costly to buy a new screen & you will need to have some knowledge of dismantling & re-assembling LCD Tv's.

find a cheap, used or defective gigabeat posted on ebay, buy it, and take out the LCD and replace your broken one
