From what I understand you are trying to get online with your playstation and to do so you want to share the internet connection with your computer but two things you mention make me believe the problem might be one of these two solutions.
First in order to start an online gaming session, at least on Xbox live, you need your own DNS which is a Domain Name Service and unique address associated with your gaming device. Since your computer already is using that unique address which you put in manually it comes back as an error. You don’t mention if you have a router or not but I will assume you do, if this is the case you need to set up your playstation to have the network setup complete automatically which will enable your router to supply the playstation with another address which will be unique to it thus no error when trying to connect to a gaming session. If this fails on the automatic setting you will need to reboot the modem that connects your computer to the internet and then reboot your router with both the computer and the Playstation connected to your router at the same time, the modem will then supply the router with a new DNS and then the router will supply both the computer and the Playstation with a new DNS and its own unique address. Once the router has rebooted get online with your computer to check to see if your router completed its tasks. I f you can get online with your computer then now go back into the Playstation setup and make sure all of the network parameters are set for automatic such as DNS, no proxy, ect.. This should get you online unless you also have a firewall problem.
If you do not have a router, only a modem from your internet company, then you will need to disconnect your computer from the modem, no sharing, connect your playstation directly to the modem, then reboot the modem. All network settings still need to be in the automatic mode in Playstation to work properly. If that still does not work that would suggest your IP gives you a static address and you will need to call them to get your network logon info and then with that info in hand set the playstation up manually with that info.
Hi PrincessDi,
The PSP can only connect to the internet through WIFI. You can ride around to find a hot spot, or go to an internet cafe'. I can go to the big sity nearby on main street and always pick up a hotspot. Run network connection to setup the wifi and connect. In your home you will need internet, and a router setup to broudcast Wifi. The USB port on your PSP is for loading up stuff like music Video and games. You could go online on your computer and go to www.playstation.com and download Music,Video, Wallpapers, Screenshots, and trial Games. Then hook up your PSP through the USB connection to load whatever you downloaded on your computer to the MagicGate Card in your PSP. WWW.Playstation.com also has the manual you can download under PSP and Support.
