I was vacuuming and the vacuum just stopped running. The cord is fairly new so I know it isn't that. Any suggestions?

Sometimes when the small pipe from the motor fan gets plugged up the motor will overheat. For safety reasons, the motor shuts off. If you able to start up the vacuum later, and the suction is not great, then follow the owner's manual to unplug the hose. It is not difficult, but it does require disassembly of the sweeper part of the vacuum. Make sure that you unplug the machine before you try to make any repairs. I have had to do this myself on occasion when the vac seemed to lose suction power. Another problem might be that you vacuum bag might be too full.

Since you mentioned that the cord is fairly new, I will make the assumption that you replaced the cord. If that is the case, then make sure the cord is unplugged from the wall, and check the connections of the cord to the vacuum. One of the wires might not have been attached properly and worked it was loose. This can happen especially if you pull hard of the cord when vacuuming. Oreck's come with a fairly long cord, but you still have to plug into a socket when you run out of cord.

If either of those suggestions does not work, then I recommend a service call to a local repair center.

Bristles quit rotating and smelled like something was burning. It isn't the belt that turns the bristles. Can't afford a repairman, can you help me fix it?

Belt can reamin intact but still jam and burn. It won't necessarily break. I suggest you remove the bottom of the vacuum where the bristles spins and where the belt is located. You may have something jammed in there. You may need to remove the bristle to get the belt out. Inspect the belt and replace after clearing the obstruiction.

Panasonic vacuum cleaner MC-5030 stopped and don't work

Unplug, check if brush has cord wrapped. Check for fuse, if applicable.
Check power lead in another supply socket. Check for reset button, if applicable. Contact Panasonic technical support for suggestions before heading to service centre.

My Dyson DC17 gets carpet fibers stuck between the brush bar belt and where the belt attaches to the machine (not the brush bar end of the belt) Then it shreds the carpet fiber and I have to tear it apart...

Hi there,

If you're concerned that the amount of fibre your carpet is shedding seems to be excessive, I'd recommend consulting your carpet manufacturer to determine if this is normal, as the shedding period will vary according to carpet type and usage. They may also be able to offer advice on the best way to vacuum it, as they sometimes suggest vacuuming certain carpet types using suction only.

Kind regards,

My vacuum worked fine yesterday and now doesn't start

To my knowledge, the on/off switch is the only area to turn your vacuum on or off. There might be a problem with your cord, or with the switch itself. I suggest checking for clogs and anything that may cause a problem.

I also suggest taking it to a local vacuum shop to have it looked and as you may need some new parts (cord/switch)

Vacuum stopped working

Sometimes after years of use the power cord can break internally where you won't see it. Look for damage or twists in the cord. With the vacuum turned on wiggle these areas between your hands and see if it tries to run. If so replace the cord. If not the switch may be bad or the motor needs to be serviced. Good luck. Please rate me so I know if I helped.
