I have a ceramic glass cook-top electric range (Sharp KB-3300J) with built-in microwave drawer. I'm having an issue with the right front burner not turning off when the knob is in the off position (The right front burner also has small and large cook areas controlled by the same knob). The first time this happened I noticed the hot surface indicator remained on longer than normal and it felt like the burner was putting off heat (although no red glow was seen). I unplugged the range, waited about 15 seconds and plugged back in. I then turned on the burner - large cook area. I saw a red light flash (kind of like when a light bulb burns out) in the center of the cook top (not where a burner is), then the right front burner turned on (glowing red). When I turn the knob to off the on/off indicator light went off but the burner remained on and glowing. I can unplug the range and repeat this process. The other burners appear to work normally as does using only the small cook area on the right front burner.
My questions are:
1.) what's causing this problem and how to fix?
2.) if I don't use the right front burner will it be safe to leave the range plugged in and use the remaining burners, oven, and microwave?
Thanks
Jon
Right front burner continues red hot after knob is turned off. Outer large ring is controllable by knob setting, inner small ring red hot. I have unplugged it several times and left it unplugged for up to 3 hours, nothing helps. Tried turning of circuit breaker for a while---nothing. Helllllppppppp!
You need to test the heating element, that probably is OK, It looks like the knob control is faulty.
If your problem is second case: "Right front burner continues red hot" then the knob control is faulty or there is a short in the wiring.
You can buy the knob and replace it here, insert yopur model number.
This is an alternative part site, same as above insert model number.
If first you want to test if there is a contact on wirings you will have to take apart the kitchen panel and check wiring.
If you want to make it faster buy the knob for few dollard and replace it, it is 90% faulty, then eventually troubleshoot wiring.
If you do not have experience fixing appliances calll a repairrman, you can use the number listaed on your owner manual.

I've cooked and served supper. Everything on the range is turned off. I am in the kitchen cleaning up. I leave the kitchen, come back an hour later and find the left front small burner is red hot and the knob is at hi. No one else had been in the kitchen.
