Sl-dd33 turntable thank you for your response to my question... yes that is a picture of my turntable, but no, there is no weight on the end of the arm that can be adjusted (like on most turntables). as far as the pickup mounting goes, where is that and how do i adjust it? is it on the other end of the arm where the stylus plugs into? this turntable was working just fine and then one day, for no apparent reason, i went to play it and the needle just started skating across the LP. Nothing looks visibly different or broken (including the needle) and at this point i'm at a loss... any ideas??

If your needle just started to skip across the LP, then that means your stylus is damaged/worn and needs to be replaced. It's very hard to see the diamond tip on the stylus, and it might not even be there at all. So checking it might not yield any results. This is what happens when the needle is worn. It will skip across the record.

The power supply of the turntable needs checking. It could be just a fuse or something more serious, such as a faulty transformer.

Technics sl-1200 tonearm problem

Hi, Assuming the the turntable is on a level platform and that you have "adjusted the weight and anti skating correctly", might it not be just the styli/cartridge that's left in question? Visually check the styli/cartridge assembly, look for unevenness of wear on the needle itself, compare with a known good styli the angle. On some rare instances, it is the shielded wire inside the arm. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

How can I get a manual on how to fix this item? The arm needs adjusting. Thanks P.S. its a Technics sl-dd33 turntable

Technics website may have one. The counter weight has a setscrew on it. Loosen it ans move the weight slightly forward until the needle just rests completely in the groove and stays there. Too much will cause excessive wear to the needle and the record.

Arm and needle skate across the record and no sound comes out. looked at another question regarding this same problem and the response was a possible problem with the stylus or the weight setting. but how...

The stylus should either just clip out or slide out depending on the type of cartridge fitted. On the weight thing look at the other end of the arm. It should have either somekind of screw or a weight with numbers on it. Slacken the weight and move it so the head where the cartridge is gets heavy. If it has numbers turn it to around 2 or 3 or higher and test/adjust using a record till it plays and doesn't make too much rumble sound when playing (in the gaps with no music) with both types of weight.

When i play a record it skips and when i play it on another turntable the same record doesnt skip

Hi, most likely a worn stylus or the tracking weight is set too lightly. Adjust the balance weight at the back end of tonearm forward slightly. If no weight adjustment available put a very small coin on the end of tonearm above the stylus. [email protected]

My turntable is Technics model SL-DD33 and all of a sudden stop working I changed the power supply cord and it didn't fix the problem. Will you please advise or where I could take it for repair and if it...

Define what isn't working. Is it dead (no motor, lights, anything)?

Or is there just no sound. The output of the cartridge is independent of any power. A basic test to see if it's alive is to lift the tonearm, select the Phono on your electronics, TURN THE VOLUME WAY DOWN TO JUST A SKOOTCH OFF OF SILENCE, place the tonearm somewhere over the platter and lightly brush the stylus (BACK TO FRONT) with your finger tip. You'll hear objectionable noise from both channels if the conenctions are all intact.

The tone arm will not drop on our Technics sl-dd33 turntable.

Have you left the tone arm lift in the up position?
If not: At the end of a record the mechanism lifts the tone arm, returns it to the rest, lowers it and switches off the motor.
It the motor has stopped too early, the tone arm will remain raised.
You can try gently rotating the platter clockwise by hand. This may allow the return cycle to finish.

Stylus will not catch

'Skating' is usually due to very low stylus pressure, which can be adjusted using a counterweight.

Is this the picture of the turntable ?
http://www.vintagetechnics.stereomanuals.com/turntables/sldd33.htm
Isn't that a counterweight at the back-end of the arm ? Can't it be rotated ?

If the counter weight is fixed, check the pickup mounting. May be it needs to be adjusted a bit forward (to increasing the stylus pressure).

Technics SL-DD33 Turntable

Well, it will play, it will just be very annoying to hear that humm. Unfortunately, you cannot get the wire plug from Technics, as it has been discontinued. So, the only other option is to take it to a service center, and have them 'hard-wire' a ground table to the unit. This entails opening it up and running a ground wire from the inside of the unit. Shouldn't cost you much, and should take about 30 min or so to complete. If you are quoted more the US$40, take it else where.

Any qualified electronics technician should be able to handle this. It's Audio Repair 101 - very easy stuff.
