Panasonic DMRES30V DVD Recorder/VCR Combo Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jul 16, 2011

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES30V. I've only ever recorded from what I'm watching on the TV to a DVD. I now have a VHS tape that I'd like to record to DVD. I tried starting the dvd to record & then switching over to the vhs & hitting play, but all I get is a black screen, it's recording nothing. I downloaded the manual online as I have now idea where mine is. but I tend to be electronic challenged & I can't figure out how to do it. I need help!

Most Combo Recorders (VHS and DVD) will prevent you from
recording a Copyrighted VHS tape program onto DVD.
Try recording a TV program onto your VHS tape, then
transfer it to your DVD and see if your new DVD recording
will work or not.

Convert VHS to DVD with a DVD recorder
What you need
A DVD Recorder ->
A DVD recorder is a device that looks like a DVD player, but with a writing function that can write content from external source onto a DVD disc. If you have ever read any other VHS to DVD tutorial, it should not be strange to you. In this case, we write VHS cassette footage onto a DVD disc.
A VHS player and your VHS cassette ->
Find them in whatever corner you left them years ago, and dust off.
An RCA or S-Video cable ->
This is the cable that connects your DVD recorder and your VHS player. Also be sure that your DVD recorder and VHS player are compatible with this kind cable, which they usually do.

This article can show you how to do it wwith detailed steps :

    Thanks for the response guys!
    It wasn't a copyrighted program, it was a home video.
    I did finally find the directions further down in the manual online. It's not as easy to find what you're looking for when you don't have it in your lap.
    They call it dubbing, & it was as easy as hitting one button & it worked great!

Dmr-ES30V Dvd plays pre record movies fine but I

Try a different brand of blank dvd+r or -r. you will find that your dvd machine is fussy on what discs it plays. More exspensive dvd players are fussy with what dvd discs you put in, as cheaper dvd players would virtualy play most types of dvds.

My Dad recorded all his VHS tapes and made DVD's on the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V and now they wont play on any DVD player except for the DMR-ES30V. I believe he recoreded them with a lock so they...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

My compliments to the foresight of your father. Your described concern is not caused by a "lock". It is indicative that the recording session was not 100% completed. Rather than 'crack', what is required is the final step in the recording. All the DVDs must be "finalized" in the same machine that recorded the movies, the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V. The finalize option would be in the MENU/Settings and must be enabled. Finalization per disc would take some time.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Can the panasonic dmr-eh75v copy a vhs tape to DVD?

Yes, that's mostly what I use mine for. You actually copy your VHS to the Hard Drive, then copy from your hard drive to your blank DVD. I'm about 1/3 of my way through reformatting my VHS library (800+ tapes.)

PANASONIC DVD RECORDER

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Since both are record capable:
  • hook the Video and Left/Right Audio OUT of the DMR-ES30V to one of the composite/matching INPUT of the DMR-EX88;
  • use the DMR-ES30V as a player and the DMR-EX88;
  • to be able to watch and monitor the output, temporarily hook up the OUTPUT of the DMR-EX88 to the INPUT of the TV.
