Hi I have an Amana BR18VW. I replaced the thermostat a couple of months ago due to ice build up in the back of the freezer. Everything worked fine for several weeks. I bought themometers for both the fridge and freezer. A couple weeks ago the freezer got too warm and I could't get it to kick on by turning up the control so I turned the red knob behind the kick plate, it kicked on and ran fine. Last week it did the same thing except this time I heard what sounded like water going down a drain after I opened the fridge. Checked the temp in the freezer and had to turn the red knob again. Any suggestions?

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned warmer which makes REF. colder or vice versa.
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

WATER SPLASHING IN FREEZER AT ICEMAKER
THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP
AGAINST THE FILL RESERVOIR CAUSING A PARTIAL BLOCKAGE
OR BECOME CLOGGED WITH ICE.
REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK
TEMP IN FREEZER. IF TEMP IS BELOW 0 DEGREES, THATS
OVERKILL AND USUALLY A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY TO KEEP IT THAT COLD, NOT TO MENTION THE FILL TUBE FREEZING UP

Good morning: I used you trouble shooting web page. Went home and de-iced my fridge freezer. The bottom fan (at the bottom in the back) is working but the fan in the freezer is not going. Does this fan...

HI,
It is possible your fan motor in the freezer has failed and by not moving air into the upper chamber can cause frosting on the back wall of the freezer. Also lack of air movement can cause your air returns to seal shut with ice and still not work if your fan is replaced. The part number your will need is 63001057 for the fan motor itself. I would verify all air ports are open when you replace the fan motor. It not a difficult job, access would take a bit to get into the back wall of the freezer to replace the motor. Amana has been known to use fan delays to pre-chill evaporator before allowing the fan to run, if our model does this, the thermostat in the freezer would need to be checked also. When the thermostat closes, it sends power to the fan motor to run, if it fails, fan does not work. I would check this prior to ordering of replacing the fan.

My Jenn Air Model No# JSD2789DES Refrigerator does not stal cold and freezer is not freezing anything...I noticed in the back of freezer the wall was covered in ice. It was working fine the other day...

Ice building up in the freezer is not good, it means that your defrost heater is not working. The purpose of the defrost heater, as the name implies, is to prevent ice from building up on the evaporator that is inside the freezer compartment. The heater and/or thermostat failure is responsible for the ice building up in the freezer. Replacing both of is recommended, but if the heater shows continuity with an ohmmeter, just replace the thermostat; if in doubt, replace both of them and your refrigerator should be back to normal. Do not forget to clean the refrigerator condenser fins.

Ice build up in freezer

Defrost system failure.

Defrost timer, heater, therma disk, any one could be bad.

You could manually defrost and this would get the Ref back to working for a couple of days before it iced up again. Remember there is a lot of ice build up on the cooling coils in the freezer that you can't see so, a little extra time with a hair dryer is needed to do a complete manual defrost.

Refergirator not cooling

Defrost system failure.

Defrost system: Freezer fan, Defrost timer, Heater, Thermostat. If any one of these are bad the coils in the freezer will get clogged with ice and not allow the cold air to circulate over to the ref. side.

Ice/frost build up on the back wall of the freezer is an indication of this problem. You can manually defrost with a hair dryer which will give you a couple of days before it starts iceing up again. Remember, the ice you see on the back wall is just the tip of the iceburg, there is a lot more on the coils behind that wall.

Amana model BR18VW Freezer on the bottom..

couple things to check BEFORE calling the technician.. Check to make sure the coils under it are clean,  2nd make sure the coil cooling fan is working.. you can do this by getting behind the machine and check to see if the fan there is blowing..
IT could also be the defrost timer or the defrost heater.. these work in the back ground so you will never know unless you have ice buid up and such..
Hope this helps

The freezer is working the frig isn't

YES , you need to replace the thermostat timer, its a device that operates like every 30 min or so applying heat thru a black element to keep the freezer from not building up ice . hope this helps AJ

LG LRFC22750 Bottom freezer french door refrigerator

6343ed3.jpg The problem is ice build up on the back wall. The noise you hear is the fan blades hitting the ice. On the back wall water gets trapped, it then builds up over time, and a big ball of ice forms and blocks the fan. Take off the back wall, defrost the build up and cut the insulation off as above. The water will no longer get trapped and the problem will not come back.
