If you take a picture using the optical viewfinder, does the camera actually record the picture? If so, you may have the LCD turned off in the camera mode (there are three options: standard, detailed, and off). With the camera in the shooting mode, press the "DISP" button and see if the LCD turns on.

My Canon powershot SD1000 screen isn't working. Iv'e charged the battery but when I turn the camera on, the screent is black. It won't take any pictures

It's very likely the CCD sensor that needs to be replaced. If you need to have it serviced, this place is excellent for the Powershots and not much at all if you need to have one fixed: www.camerasandparts.com
Before having it fixed, press the DISP button first and make sure you just didn't turn the display off. If you end up needing service for the Canon, that place above is really great for these cameras.

My camera will no longer show the image on the screen when I am taking a picture with my Canon PowerShot SD1000 digital camera. Can this be fixed or is it time for a new camera?

most likely you have turned the dispaly off. find the display key and turn the screen back on.

another option is to go into the menu, then go to display and set it there.

My Canon Powershot SD1000 has a fully charged battery but won't turn on at all.

Does your camera turn on when it's in playback mode? I have a similiar problem with mine. It only turns on in playback mode.

Black screen while shooting, but still taking pictures not black

Nonononooooo fotomohamed, he can review just taken pictures on the LCD. The screen is working.

Actually, it sounds like you just accidentally pressed the DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off in picture taking mode to save batteries (you would then use optical viewfinder). Just press it once and it should turn back on.

Canon Powershot SD1000: LCD screen display

Hopefully you resolved this already. If not, push the "DISP." button left of the MENU button. Pushing it gives you three options: black (for discreet shooting so your LCD doesn't give garner dirty looks from fellow concert goers), liveview, and liveview with info overlayed (shooting mode, ISO, etc.). Good luck!

I have a Canon powershot SD1000 that no longer will show the picture on the viewing screen. The screen is completely black

Hi!

It's possible that you may have accidentally pressed the DISP button to disable the LCD. Please try to press the DISP button after you switch on the camera. If the display does not show up on the first press, try pressing the button twice or until the LCD turns on.

Please let me know if it fixed the problem , or not so that we can try other options.

Good luck and have a nice day!

Camera will take picture, but the picture is coming out black!!!! Help Please!!!

Dear vera11:

The symptoms you're describing sound like a classic case of having a faiiled CCD image sensor.

First try pressing the display (DISP) button on the back of your camera several times to see if your image returns at any time. One of the three display modes is "off" to preserve battery life. Your problem may be as simple as inadvertently pressing this button into the off mode.

If that doesn't work, try doing a reset and then removing your batteries from the camera for a few minutes, reinstalling them and turning the camera on to test the LCD screen.

If your screen is still black, but you can clearly see pictures taken previous to the problem, and you can clearly see the menu system when you press the MENU button, then you likely have a CCD sensor problem. Contact Canon Tech Support at 1-800-828-4040 to have the camera repaired.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB
