Moen 3175 Legend One Handle Shower Faucet With trol Pressure Balancing Valve.... Logo
Posted on Jul 15, 2011

I had a plumber install a new moen faucet in my bath tub/ shower. It is a one handle unit. When we turn the water on a little bit cold comes out the bath fixture as it should but as you turn toward the hot water starts coming out of the shower head until you get all the way over to hot. Is this an issue with how the catridge was installed? thank you for your help...

one thing i see is the use of pex pipe and fittings to stub out for the spout. pex fittings restrict the flow and send water up to the shower. so if you find pex pipe you will need to replace it with copper or galvenized.

My first suggestion is to have the installation plumber return to adjust the faucet to function properly

We have a Moen one handle faucet in the bathtub. It was installed opposite for water but I see the answer to that question is to flip the cartridge. Well, now the appears that something is stripped as...

If the handle spins, but the cartridge remains stationary, then the stop inside the handle is broken and the handle must be replaced. To test, remove handle and see if you can turn the stem with a pliers. If you can turn the water on, then I'm right. Replace the handle. If not, then you have me stumped.

We had both the shower and the Bath tub remodeld and installed new Moen faucets with a single knob that turns right to left to open. All was fine for a couple of days but all of the sudden they startd...

You need to install a new moen cartridge its a single handle posi-temp cartridge you should be able to get 1 for free if you are the original owner by calling 1-800-buy-moen more than likely when soldering in the new valve a little bit of solder broke free into the cartridge or hard water. When the water gets turned off and then turned back on it can break free alot of particles that can get jammed up in these cartridges or any fixture for that matter you will need a cartridge puller to perform this job with ease.

these valves can be adjusted by removing the handle and adjusting the white gear that regulates the hot and cold that come out, try going more to one way if it gets colder then go the other way.

New house . tub wont turn off. water has a steady

The plumber soldered in the faucet without removing the cartridge, the o-rings are melted. Have the builder replace the o-rings.

Moen Bath Tub Faucet

Hi varn4620,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You had to replace the faucet in the tub due to a broken plastic piece in valve stem. Bought a Moen ripped the wall out and put new faucet in. Went good untill we turned the water on and the shower rained on us. Tightened everything you could find to tighten .Every time the water is turned on the shower rains. Can this be fixed or is the faucet broken?

Is this new faudet a single handle? If so I"ve had this experience also. Most of the time it's because the guts were not lined up properly at the factory. You may have to play with it a bit.
Turn off the water and take the handle off and remove the sleave, remove and rotate the guts. Try 90' at a time. Turn water on to try it. Useually one of the other 3 positions will be right. The correct position is there, but it may take time to find it.
