Maintenance (excluding the power plant) Your primary maintenance concern with chippers and shredders is their knives. You can re-sharpen chipper knives, whereas you can reverse shredder flail-type knives when dull but you can not re-sharpen them. You must sharpen chipper knives with special sharpening equipment because they are made of high-carbon steel. Maintaining sharp knives can lengthen their life and the life of the machine by keeping power requirements low. An over-dulled or chipped chipper knife will need extensive sharpening, which will remove a large portion of the blade. This obviously will shorten its life. As soon as a blade is slightly dull, you should sharpen it to minimize the amount of blade-material that you remove. All knives need sharpening at the same time to keep them in balance-even if only one is worn or chipped. Also, you must use matched sets to keep the knife the same distance from the anvil for proper chipping and feeding. After removing the knives, clean the area where they are fastened with a wire brush to make sure they will align correctly. Be sure to torque the knife bolts to their proper specifications. You will need to examine the anvil and be sure it maintains a good, square edge. Occasionally, you may need to remove and sharpen it.

Mitts and Merrill m4 chipper knives replacement how to

Before replacing the M4 chipper knives, prioritize safety by turning off and disconnecting the chipper from the power source. Then, locate the access points or covers that provide entry to the knives for a safe and efficient replacement process, then you have to ensure the chippers safety, then carefully unscrew the bolts or remove the clamps that secure the old M4 chipper knives, allowing access for their replacement and maintenance an once the old M4 chipper knives are removed, carefully align and insert the new knives into the slots or mounting holes, ensuring they match the orientation of the previous knives. Secure them in place with the appropriate bolts or screws, and perform a thorough inspection to ensure proper alignment and functionality.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Go to this site:

http://www.brentchalmers.com/

I note your looking for the Super Tomahawk. If you can come up with a model number I think I can find your parts manual for sure. (or at least an on-line parts list.) Also.... If you can come up with an engine number like OH120 or L90 off of the engine I can find you a manual for the engine also.

This is the list of Manuals available there:

  • 1983 W-W Grinder Inc. Manual and Parts List Super Tomahawk 5-8-2G/C and Tomahawk 5-8-2G/M Chipper/Shredder (40 Pages)

  • Hopefully your model is one of the above.

Here is link to the Parts manuals:

    http://www.partsandservice.com/html/TroyBilt/cs/

There are 90 parts manuals there.

Again with a good model and engine number I can probably come up with your exact manuals.

    5 hp briggs & stratton on a chipper/shreader

if the starter rope fails to retract, then you need to either fix a broken spring, or put a new one in. You'll have to take the engine cover off, and you'll be able to see how to take apart the retractor assembly. Often times, just the end of the spring will break off, and if you have a grinder, you can grind the correct shape in it again, and reinstall it as is.

    Wood Chipper how to

Great input tina783. I have just one thing to add. Try to shred the branches within a reasonable amount of time. I found out that with my shredder, if I put older, dried up branches in, it tends to take a lot more time, as well as tosses chips back out at you. With newly cut branches, this wasn't nearly as much as an issue.
