digital cameras do have a "shutter", kind of. IT is electronic, just powers on/of the sensor that captrures the image. Some digital cameras have regular swhutter also, that makes it possible to get real fast shutter speeds for flsh. Take off the lens and look inside, It is possible that the mirror is locked in the up position. Read your owners manual and see if there is a reset button for the camera. Remove the battery, tuen camera on/off switch 2-3 times,replace battery and look again. Try reset switch(if available). My Nikon has a mirror locxk up function available throough its menu. Read your owners manual and see if you have the same. If you can reead menu on LCD, and manual says you have mirror lockup, then try changing settings.

There is no physical reset button on the camera itself.

If the camera malfunctions, it may need to be reset. The batteries or battery pack must be removed to reset it.

Tuen off the power, take out the battery and let them be out of the camera for about 10 minutes.

Re-insert the batteries and power up the camera.

In case the camera does not reset, please leave the batteries out overnight and it will.

If its still under warrenty send it back but dont tell them about Jamaica trip just the error.

Try these procedures.

Your zooming button is faulty. You will have to contact service center, if you're not sure how to deal with repairing it yourself. The matter is simple, and it won't cost you much.

i think the red light means low power for battery... maybe just maybe your battery didnt really charge.. im not saying that its the charger, but try to buy a new rechargeable batteries, use it then charge it and compare it with the other one... i think thats the problem with batteries if we stop using it for a long time... hope ull be able to resolve it

it is entirely possible that you have dirt or a grain of sand in the lens mechanism.
find some one with an air compressor or get a can of pressurized air and blow around the lens.
smack the camera lens down on your hand a few times ( not joking) and tuen it off and on to try and release the dirt holding the lens from setting up correctly keep persisting as in some cases it takes 20 -30 goes to get it free But it does woek belive me it happoened to me and when i was given this info i thought the guy was having a joke one me. But bingo! it finally worked

Don't panic, keep in mind to turn off the camera before you remove the SD card or change lenes. Charging the battery shouldn't take too long put it back in make sure the lens is properly locked in place, put in the SD card in then turn it on and you should be good to go. let me know I'll check back in an hour to see if that helped.

tuen on camera then press display a few times. it sounds like the display is just turned off. the lens system should be open.
