Panasonic PV-DV702 Garbled playback - any solutions??

I have a Panasonic PV-DV702 MiniDV camcorder that has had moderate use. I recently tried to transfer my videos to my computer and the images were "pixelated" and jumped and skipped. I got a head cleaning tape and followed the instructions and the problems was solved for a few minutes of playback and then the problem returned. I also notice a faint "grinding" noise in the camera as if the tape is not alligned properly but there is no visible damage to the tape when I take it out. Has anyone had similar problems and if so can I do anything to fix it without paying out the nose to be repaired? Thanks for your help!

Try a different tape. The tape itself may be bad.

Same problem but w/ a new tape already. Recorded once and now downloading and I get the same garbled mess. Other suggestions beside a new tape?

Panasonic PV-D308 Palmcorder - no sound

It's probably not worth fixing. Camcorders are so cheap these days and it's high time you upgraded to a good miniDV camera or even a hard drive model.

You could try resetting the camera. See if there's a firmware update for it that may address the issue. Go into the menu to see if you accidentally muted it.

But if a repair is in order, rule of thumb is that if you get an estimate that is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer, more updated model.
