SOURCE: Our Color TV is now Black & White

It could be the color wheel and in fact probably is. I've seen them shatter which would explain the noise. They are glass and spinn at 9000 rpm. An involved repair though definatley a job for a pro. It could be worse, probably a few hundred will do it. Was the TV begining to be a little loud before the failure? Could be a sign, i've seen many noisy color wheels.

sounds like you are haveing an issue with th color wheel timing. either the color wheel is bad or the dmd board is bad.only way to know is to have a technician look at it.

SOURCE: purple hue on image or vertical lines (noise)..viewfinder has normal color or flickers

I had the same problem and used the solution posted here (recall). They responded very fast and sent me an refurbished Canon Powershot S5 1S camera. I am not sure if I should receive the new one or insist my old one to be repaired.

I'm experiencing a loud buzzing (fan?) sound that just started recently while watching my HLP5674W. The picture is fine, but the sound of what may be a fan or something like that is very loud and will...

Loud sound would be coming from defective color wheel that is mounted i light engine, next to lamp housing. Replacement of color wheel is required expertise/ experience and professional will do that for you in correct and in safe manner.
Contact local tv repair shop to get color wheel replaced in tv.
Thanks.

Loud noise and only black and white picture

The Color wheel has gone bad. It has actually decintegrated in the housing. No big deal. You need a trained Samsung tech to replace the Color Wheel. Part # is BP96-00250A.

Chuck the TV - probably It depends on the repair facilities available where you live. In big urban areas the cost of staffing a repair shop is such it can cost nearly as much per hour just to look at an item is it does to buy the next one-plus you get all the latest features.
