Hi There, I feel a bit baffled by the fact that my HTC is NO MORE recognized by my laptop hard drive. When I first got it and I did connect it to the laptop, the hard drive was creating an additional drive "E:" to connect the content i.e. music, photos etc.. of the phone to the laptop. Now, there is nothing happening. When plugged in to the laptop via USB cable provided with the phone, I can hear a noise like the connection did take place but when cliking on the E: drive nothing is happening, it's empty!!? The phone is set to hard drive connection as requested. Hope you can help. Thank you. P

Change you usb port or replace the smartdisk's usb cable, probably the current one if broken.
Also restart the pc whilst the smartdisk is connected. It shd be recognised now.
This is usually indicative of either the fact there is no hard drive installed in the system, or the hard drive is blank and there is no operating system. The third possibility is that there is a problem between the motherboard and the hard drive, not allowing the interface between the two to work. Check the hard drive and its connections first. You can always remove the hard drive and using an adapter attach it to another computer so it will be recognized as an external drive and access the drive for viewing the files if there are any.
hi
have you used hard drive password to protect then remove the password if not then if your HDD is making lot sound and not able detect that might be your HDD is gone (HDD=hard disk).
The Hard Drive could have come loose from the SATA or PATA connection, or your Hard Drive could have simply died. If it is still under warranty; replace it. If it is out of warranty; open the external casing and check that the HD is connected and / or test the HD in a separate external casing or Desktop that you have. If it is connected and the external casing is working properly (or Desktop is booting properly and can read it), then you have a dead Hard Drive and will have to buy a new one.
i suggest trying to boot with a live linux cd, and checking to see if linux can recognize the device. that is the only thing i can think of besides double checking the jumper settings and making sure it's set to cable select. let me know if this works :) good luck
Some laptops need a caddy, but if the hard drive can fit in without a caddy then don't worry about it. If the drive is a bit loose then wrap or add some paper around the hard drive to stop it moving about.

solution to this problem is scanning your hard drive.
