Screen appears "foggy"

My Nuvi 660 is about a year old. Lately the screen is no longer clear and sharp. It looks foggy although still viewable in the evenings. Directions still work so it is just the screen that is a problem.

My screen on the nuvi 660 will not respond.

Please don't attempt to do this yourself. You need the right tools so you don't damage the case and internal parts. Also, a replacement touchscreen does NOT come with the 2mm double-sided adhesive to apply it to the LCD bezel. You have to pry off the old touchscreen & glass, clean off the adhesive residue and apply the new screen. I've done this hundreds of times. Unless you have the right tools, you risk damaging your unit. I've received countless number of units that were damaged by their owners.

System software missing

Sometimes when a GPS unit is turned on for the first time or is moved to a new location, it needs to rebuild the orbiting Satellite Database and relationship to those satellites at a specific location. Set the unit on and allow it to sit under the unobstructed sky for at least 10 minutes, could take longer if this is the problem. See if the error message clears, and normal function returns.

Buttons on screen jump around

Ok I have a few questions. When you mean it jumps around do you mean:

1. When you press a 3, the 3 button becomes a 7 graphically or
2. When you press a 3, the 7 button is highlighted and chosen.

The first thing I would do is try to recalibrate your touchscreen by pressing the wrench symbol, then the display icon and select calibrate screen. Press the series of dots as you are asked to do and see if that clears up your problem.

If that doesn't work, then I would do a reflash/ugrade of the firmware. Perhaps the firmware is corrupted. This can be done by dowloading Garmin's webupdater at www.garmin.com and connecting your Nuvi to your PC and letting the program reflash your firmware.

The last solution is to replace the touchscreen. Are you sure the screen is not cracked anywhere? A cracked screen will certainly cause a touchscreen to either not work or activate another button when pressed.

Garmin Nuvi 660 shutting off

It sounds like your battery is defective. They can be replaced. The Motorola phone cable is not wired exactly like the Garmin, and your Nuvi thinks it's connected to a PC. Radio Shack carries a charger for the Nuvi. I have one myself.

Let me know if you need additional help with your battery problem.

Garmin Nuvi 660 Can not locate Sattelites

Please read the solution that resolved this problem for someone else. Most likely, you have already tried this. However, the antenna of your Nuvi 660 is the same as the 3xx Nuvi series. I know this because I have worked on them.

If the above procedure does not work for you, the entire antenna assembly will need to be replaced.
The other option is to purchase an external antenna for your Nuvi and plug it into the external antenna port (gold connector) on the Nuvi antenna assembly.

Best wishes,

I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and the suction cup fell off the inside of the windshield and broke the screen on the GPS. I believe it is only the touch screen portion because the picture looks and acts fine. ...

If the unit is under warranty, then send it back to the manufacturer. I had one customer that had the same thing happen and the manufacture offered to replace her unit free of charge.

If the unit is out of warranty, the manufacturer will not sell you a replacement screen. You can find them on eBay, but unless you know how to take the Nuvi apart, you face damaging the unit further.

If the touch screen is bad, the Nuvi will not recognize any presses on the screen. Having worked on many of these units, there is really nothing to go bad on a touch screen unless its physically damaged or has become disconnected from being dropped. If it appears that the glass is cracked, then it is the LCD display that is bad. The touch screen is a clear film layer that lays over the LCD display.

I would strongly suggest that you purchase a Garmin friction mount and no longer use the window mount. With a friction mount, your Nuvi will not fall and the friction mount is legal in all 50 states, whereas a window mount may not be.

Change Home Location on Nuvi 660

Go into 'Where To', 'Favorites', 'HOME', 'Edit...', 'Delete'. Then from the main map screen you can tap the screen and 'Save' the location as your new home. You can't save a 'Home' location if there's already one called that in memory, so you have to delete the old one first.

(I have a 680, but I assume it's the same)
