The LS 2000 scanner shows "Hardware error.. The present function cannot be continued. Sense:0x04620000. Can I get your expertise on this problem?

The error indicates a scanner hardware problem. Your printer, probably, won't be able to perform its normal functions. I would highly recommend that you contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistance. Thanks.

Try upgrading to v4.02 driver. You may need to download 4.0 first as 4.02 may only upgrade from 4.0. The scanner runs with v4.02 on my Mackbook pro but I can only scan using the slide adapter and the film holder at present. The film adapter will not work but i'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem.

After months of use, your printer might get the habit of stopping in the middle of a page and showing "Hardware Error 0502" on the display panel. If you leave the printer alone for a while, it might start printing again. Then again, it might not. Pretty annoying.

The Lexmark support site will let you power off, remove the power cord for 30 seconds, take out the cartridges and fiddle with some encoder strip. This whole procedure might take you up to 30 minutes and it will not help (been there, done that).

On the multi function machine seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe this rod with a kleenex and the problem seems to go away. Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error.

Clean that with a paper towel. The towel will be black from ink residue, but you will be able to print again.

The lubricant has become sticky and is acting more like adhesive than lubricant. This is the most common cause of malfunction in the LS-2000 and LS-30 scanners. It's a quite curable condition.

Here's what you need to do (carefully!!):

the problem is that the scan sledge gets stuck if arriving at end of screw. To fix:
Open scanner by unscrewing the four screws in the back - this will allow ypu to slide the sides slighly backwards and then remove. Then take the plastic front of (press the plastic tap on top with screwdriver). You will the see a small brass screw center bottom at the front. Loosen this a few turn and try again (you may have to try a few times)...
